Man Kills His Own Son to Avoid Child Support

NEW ORLEANS -- The superintendent of the New Orleans police department says a man who allegedly killed his 2½-year-old son over child support is a "sick" individual.

Police Superintendent Warren Riley says Danny Platt initially told police gunmen kidnapped his son. Riley says Platt was arrested Saturday and eventually confessed and told authorities where to find the body.

Riley told a news conference that Platt had said he would either kill his wife or his child before he would pay child support.

Riley says Platt's kidnap tale never added up and he was a suspect from the beginning.

Although he had visiting rights, Platt had never visited the boy before picking him up Friday.

Riley says Platt had only a couple of "very minor" previous arrests.

I said this in another thread, but I wonder how many people have abortions in America because they can't afford to have a child financially?

This of course is much worse, but is something along the same lines. I mean, In Europe we have child allowances - the government PAYS your child rearing costs. The government covers the hospital birthing costs and medical costs for the child. If America spent its money on those sort of programmes instead of buying bombs to drop on third world countries, you wouldn't see this sort of thing happening.

I couldnt agree more. We are very lucky in the uk to have free access to hospitals and doctors. There seems to be a lot of stories in the press these days, about parents abusing and murdering their children. What the fuck is wrong with people! I feel guilty just telling mine they cant have sweets before dinner for god sake. It makes me sick to the pit of my stomach.

Yeah. Imagine if they did shit like that in, oh, say, China.

I think this guy had a lot more wrong with him than just not being able to afford the kid. I mean he COULD afford the kid. There are ways to get by. He just didn't want to go that road. It has nothing to do with him being American. It has to do with him being a miserly dick.

Well, I really hope that President Elect Obama will change things, the system, for the good of the world. I remember in school for history class the kids would always bring up local stories of fathers murdering kids as 'current events' They actually seemed more like something they had made up. I think if more people spent less time involved in their own egos we'd see less people.....screwing the world up.

It's interesting to think about the psychology of the killer's mind. They see something beautiful and will only 'love' if it is self-serving to their own egos. Though many of them have motives based on instincts. The things that arouse them such as violence and hatred. I also think that most killers are selfish.

I'm concentrating on writing a horror novel soon, but I'd focus more on the occult and supernatural. I used to not like the twisted stuff as much but though I have been trying to 'toughen' up more and endure horror movies, because I am becoming such a mopey person.

This article is pretty frightening, it only strikes me as terror. Reading so much of this, makes us more immune....

Honestly, my first reaction was 'another one of those stories'
I have a question though

Do goths have to be interested in morbid, murder, and darkness, or is this really part of the goth culture?

I had read it. But I find that a lot of goths do equate morbid things with being goth. It's not a critical question. I am curious if you can be goth but not be into black at all, and not be too into gore even though you enjoy Dracula and write twisted things. I'm more trying to evaluate if I would fit into goth culture, without thinking negatively about myself or taking into account how often I am critizised on here. Also, I had to rephrase that question because It came out wrong, I'm just piecing the thoughts together, I'm not perfect.
