Fuck.... damn.
So... a friend of mine is in serious trouble. Painful trouble. I can't exactly say what it is, but essentially, in a nut shell, her body is falling apart on her. She's only 23. Doctors wont entertain surgery at all until much later in her life and they say it's only going to get much worse...
I don't know what to say. I couldn't say much. I just couldn't say anything. She shown me her despair and I simply don't know what I can do because I'm powerless against it. She is sick and hurting... and there's nothing I can do. Nothing at all.
I feel terrible for her. I feel like shit. My bad feelings are all dressed up with nowhere to go. I don't know what to do. All I feel that I can do is listen and even then... nothing more than that.
This sucks.

It's one thing for someone to be going through emotional trouble since emotional support is something you can actually do for them, but being helpless like this is just fucked. I'm sorry you have to go through this, and even moreso that she has to.
And something I don't get is why doctors wouldn't want to operate now when she's young and surely its safer... I bloody hope they're willing to prescribe some effective pain medication in the meantime.

What is wrong with her? (If you don't mind me asking that is)
I'm really sorry that she has to go through this but even though you may feel like you aren't doing anything I'm sure that she really appreciates you being there for you, most painful medical problems do cause a lot of emotional distress as well so at least you are able to help her deal with that.

You can do many things!
Try to make her happy, so that she'll temporary forget her grievance.
In this situation, emotional support is one of the most important thing you can do to help her.
Hope she'll be fine, soon.

Sorry for your firend....I really hope they'll give her some good painkillers. And for the doctors that are not willing to get her the surgery she should try at some other hospitals with a better reputation. She's young she has all of her life ahead she should have the god damn surgery and get it over with.Spending your life in hospitals is horrible especially when you're that age.
Hope she'll be better soon

If that is all you can do then just keep doing it. At least you can say you're giving 100% of what you can give. I'm sure she is perfectly aware of your limitations just as you are, so she will understand you're doing everything you can.

Everyone else has said it already, but just do everything you can do, and don't feel guilty for not doing anything you can't.
I'm very sorry to hear about your friend.

It could work, cannabis being a pain relief drug, but it's not completely reliable. It depends on the person and the pain, but I think it'd be worth a shot.
I'm sorry you and your friend have to go through this Kontan, stay strong.

Kontan-
This is horribly tragic, and I resent that the world can be so cruel; in short, I sympathize with your feelings of anguish.
That said, we all die sometime; some of us just don't get quite as much time as others. While you can't change the duration of her life, you can impact the quality of her remaining days. Can she get around? If so, go do things together that she otherwise wouldn't get the chance to do. If she's immobile, find ways to bring her interests to her. Even if she's suffering, you can still help her make the most of the life she has.

yea, morphine ain't so great. i'm go for the cannabis.
but has she though about going somewhere to get the surgery? it's usually alot easier than it seems, and could even end u begin cheaper, depending on where you live. for example, people who live in england i hear often have surgeries done in France, and what they won't do in America or England, i have my dentistry stuff done in other countries- you'll even get the same standard, if not better.

If she hasn't already you may want to encourage her to get a 2nd opinion (or even 3rd or 4th) because some practitioners are more likely to be proactive and get surgeries done earlier than others.
