Stock Market...

Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them.

The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.

Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it!

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him.

In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers; "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each."

The villagers rounded up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys.

They never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere!

Now you have a better understanding of how the stock market works.

I just posted a story from a joke site, so I didn't set high expectations.

Funny shit Joker. Brings to mind something I heard about recently where three stock market analysts and a parrot had a contest to see who could get better returns on something like four grand. The parrot made his picks by pecking random balls that were labeled with different stocks and the three analysts, well, used their stock market analysis skills. The parrot won with a return rate of around 12%, the three analysts each lost around 4%.

The market is so ridiculous these days that it isn't much better than the sophisticated person's lottery.

Two things

1) Some stocks are purchased on credit, which is imaginary money in place of real money, which has an imaginary value that, after a long and nonsensical process, is equated to gold which, other than being shiny, is almost entirely useless. I refuse to call anyone who plays with that many imaginary things "sophisticated"

2) It's harder to cheat in the lottery

Sophisticated as in how they see themselves, not as in how they really are. As for cheating, tell me about it. Did you hear about the software that Goldman Sachs, I'm sure other companies had similar and this was just the one company's that came to light, which allowed them to monitor and front run their customers trades. What the software basically did was watch for large trades in a stock coming through and would hold the customer's orders for a few seconds while Goldman placed large buy/sell/short orders before their customer's trades went through and altered the market prices. Allowed them to make a few risk free cents here and there, which in the end adds up to a lot, while screwing their customers out of those few cents.
