*sigh* I need a hobby.....
I feel so purposeless.......usually I just spend my time reading, drawing, and watching movies.....but I've been kind of depressed and I really want something to spend time on......a couple of girls in the group I hang out with are training to join a roller derby team......and although I could imagine that being fun all the girls are at least a year older and considerably larger than myself - I doubt they'd even let me join. Anyway, it's not really my kind of thing......too sporty. But I really want SOMETHING to do.......any ideas? What do you guys do for hobbies? (although I must say something about that word always bothers me - makes me think of model airplanes and that sort of thing I guess)

For a start, I'd stop whining about it on the interwebs...
Seriously, there's volunteering, walking, finding more books to read. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. You just need to get out more. Then again, that goes for me too and I'm older than you mainly 'cause I've been busy working.
For me:
I have a lot of books, mostly non-fiction (like makeup books, old scripts, etc.)
My neck of the hellhole has free Tuesdays for certain museums
Chappelle's Show on DVD can kill many a dull night and afternoon
Going through and tossing all of my old clutter has been quite cathartic for me
One woman whole album and playlist by mood and compilation parties on my iTunes
I love exploring some of my neighborhoods (Hillcrest, Adams Avenue, North Park, downtown La Mesa)
Libraries and bookstores are also fun to check out, especially used bookstores
Three words: Turner Classic Movies

Sorry, I do realize this is a bit whiny, I guess I should have put it in the designated category......
While those are all good suggestions, I do that sort of thing......I guess what I mean is, I want something to do more than pass the time with......
And I'm also just curious about what you guys do!

Get and start learning a challenging instrument and refuse to give up on it and join a community service group. Because it's awesome, I'll recommend you to look for a socialist group in your area. You won't get bored with that.

going for an instrument is great. i'm only a bit older than you, and i used to have problems with that, but when i took up bass, things improved. just get out, wake up, and be yourself as vibrantly as possible.

I agree, learn an instrument or an art form, it takes up a lot of hours in the day, it's challenging but it's fun and you get to express yourself. Doesn't get better than that.

Strangely enough, I was gonna suggest reading and drawing. I won't suggest anything like classes as I don't know how you're fixed for funds, but look online - the internet makes it pretty easy to find groups in your area who are about something you're interested in, from political activism to performance poetry. Good way to meet people too.

It sounds like you have plenty you're taking in - but nothing you're giving out. No wonder you're bored. Perhaps even your art has become stale and unsatisfying for you.
Here are the things I recommend you do:
Volunteer at a charity, school, or something similar
Walk, explore! Whether you plug in to headphones, or take them off to listen to the world around you, you'll be stimulated.
Take up a new form of art, like sculpting, painting, carving, or even whittling!
Make your own clothes - whether you glue a Specimen patch to something from a thrift shop or take a few yards of fabric and create something from scratch, you will find it fulfilling and rewarding
And yes, teach yourself an instrument - then write a song. Write many!
Hope you find something you enjoy and you get out of your funk soon.

Start playing World of Warcraft. I promise you, the second you start, it will suck away every fucking spare second of your time if you are not careful.
