Thnx for the link. Haven't been paying much attention to the goings-on in Trent-world lately.
It's an OK song, but compared to the earlier NIN stuff, it's more of a pop excursion, really. I mean, it has a nice propulsive beat, but it kinda sounds like what you would find on any dance-punk inflected type of rock these days. Now I'll be the first to jump up and say that post-punk's not dead, but it is beginning to show signs of wear in its modern incarnation. So maybe I thought Trent Reznor would be a bit more innovative. Anyway, I know the guy is really insecure about his abilities as a vocalist, and maybe rightly so. His vocal melodies and lyrics certainly show little sign of progress, and while that simplicity might have worked on the earlier stuff, it seems stagnant compared to the sonic evolution NIN has undergone in terms of slick production and instrumentation. Sonically, Trent Reznor is a genius. When it comes to songwriting, he leaves a lot to be desired.
Sorry for hatin', but that's just my (o)pinion. Cool video, though. I like the natural, rehearsal-room setting and the mechanical camera movements.

That's what I was thinking too. Where's the fucking fury? I fear the rot of money and complacency has set in... But yeah, the live experience might still be awesome, let's hope.

If money were the issue then surely Trent would be doing bigger venues than what they've been booking lately. He may just be stuck in the past.Growing stagnant, not evolving. You have to evolve to survive.

It could be the rest of the album rocks so much they put out that video to appease the masses. Like with many of their previous albums, they took the songs that sold to the masses (ie. Closer, head like a hole, etc) and made the videos first and sold the albums to the masses that way.
We all know which trax were the good ones and that get play at the clubs, and none are from the videos that hit the tv weeks before the album does. Helps get the pop stations and their fans involved.
Hopefully the rest of the album will be alot more angsty.

Yeah, they really marketed some of the more boring or medicore of Trent's stuff from The Fragile last time around too (IMO). The rest of the album(s) was pretty appealing. "The Day The Whole World Went Away" and whatever else was on the demo disc that preceded that album set were hardly impressive, but when I bought the Fragile thereafter, the rest of the two albums were decent and interesting. Not on par with his previous work, but still was distinctive and evoking enough to cough up the money for the new album coming out here soon.

Re: New nine inch nails Video.
"the hand that feeds": Definitely a Pop-inflected radio song, the only truly weak song on the new nine inch album. Where's the fury? Where's the fucking angst that nine inch is known for on this one? The rest of the album, however, sounds like a clear-cut departure from the experimental/versatile-to-the-point of-alienating feel that existed on "the fragile". Regarding the video itself, it's basically Trent Reznor & Company playing/recording inside nothing studio. Period. Boring. I was hoping that there would be something overly trippy [in the vein of "head like a hole"] or at least melodramatic [in the vein of "we're in this together"]. Personally, I think the 2nd song on "with teeth"--"know who you are"--should've been made into a music video. Because that's the nine inch that I know & love.
