The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
I just watched the remake of the 1919 German horror film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari". It was absolutely amazing, I'd like to see the original silent film. Has anyone here watched it?

There's a link to where you can watch it and other horror classics like "Nosferatu" on YouTube:

In general originals are usually better. I did enjoy the remake though, I'll have to see how it compares to the silent film. Currently though I'm watching Nosferatu.

I liked the remake more. (Probably because I watched it first). Hey Mariner, that one who commented about your good choice in lit., he's so true. How old are you?

I'm 19...I'm a bit of an odd 19-year-old I suppose.

The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari is one of those rare films whose remake didn't fill me with rage. The silent original is probably one of my all time favourites and I love the actor Conrad Veidt (Cesare). If you're a fan of the original you should check out his work in other films like The Hands of Orlac and Waxworks (both 1924).

I haven't watched the original yet (hope to soon), but I have seen some clips that look amazing. I'll be sure to check out the other films you've mentioned.

Those films are all definitely worth a look. I can't believe I forgot to mention The Man Who Laughs, 1928. In that film Conrad Veidt plays Gwynplaine, a man who has a permanent smile carved onto his face. Random trivia: that character was actually the inspiration for The Joker.

Bloodflowers, you're amazing. I'm looking forward to watching that movie, and the trivia is much appreciated.
