I freaking HATE conspiracy theorists

I am beginning to think they're WAY more annoying than pagans, born-again Christians, and Tea Partiers.

Okay, so last night I was out a a friend's birthday at this SUPER ritzy restaurant in Brooklyn. All of the friends we had in common were sitting at the far end of the table, so we were stuck talking to new people (not bad for me, but my g/f is really quiet around new people so she didn't have much fun.)

So this one guy starts talking to us; he seems cool at first, we discuss books, he's a musician, he wants to smoke us up, etc.

Then, as the night goes on, he slams 2 REALLY expensive cocktails (like $14 + per drink) and starts ranting at my girlfriend (because she said she didn't feel very sorry for those people trapped on that cruise ship for 3 days, who had to eat spam.)

Anyway guy starts being rude (I didn't pick up on it, because my g/f was on the other side of the table, and my left ear is a little deaf right now) and then launches into how the N.W.O. engineered the plane crash that killed the polish government, how Glenn Beck is this fallen crusader because he was intimidated into not revealing the existence of the FEMA camps, how George Bush's family and the other global elites burn a baby in after getting sucked off by a bunch of SUPER HOT gay dudes flown in from California every summer. How he (the guy) is the third member in a long line of elite military super-soldier black-ops who serve the "World Bankers" (Jews) but he somehow managed to not be in the military, after signing up because his parents know the TRUTH about Vietnam and 9-11 and had all of his military documents secretly erased. How he is the secret song-writer behind bands like 3-11 and The Offspring, but chose to have his name removed for mall of their albums because he didn't like the direction they went in creatively.

etc.

Now I was tempted to go "Despanan" on his ass, but I didn't want to ruin my friend's birthday party by starting a fight with this psycho. I didn't let him get away with anything, so I politely pointed out where his logic failed, how unbelievable his claims were, Occam's Razor etc.

What was insane was how his answer to everything was anecdotal: "I KNOW PERSONALLY" evidence. He would talk about how marketing agencies were created by Sigmund Freud's nephew and were manipulating us all subconsciously; I'd point out that pretty much all of Freud's theories have been disproven and really are only embraced by writers and artists, not scientists, and he'd just move on to something else. No argument, no conciliation, just: "Well how about THIS?"

Damn thing went on for about 20 or thirty minutes, till we were able to politely make an excuse and leave the party.

Anyway, basically, these people are rude, stupid fuckers, and I don't think I've ever encountered human beings with such closed minded, fucktardedly turned in methods of thinking. The fact that they use the rules of polite society to get away with their insane drivel is also massively frustrating. Dude pretty much ruined the party for my G/F, and most frustrating was that I couldn't reach across the table and pummel him without making a huge scene.

/rant over

i think there funny. i was once a graveyard shift server for Denny's and out here where i live there are a lot of crazies. Yeah there rude and very closed minded, but you can also play with them. Like just agreeing that, yes there are people outside, but don't worry they won't notice if they think your normal. Buy a cheeseburger it has an antidote so they can't see you..... However i also strongly don't recommend this, more than often these people are also deliriously dangerous. I can't tell you how many times i have had my life threatened so ridiculously.

My sympathies, dude. I have to sit in class next to a guy who's convinced that Americans are plotting world domination. No shit, you're going to invade everyone! Iran is next, because its getting too hard to pipe oil around Iran. Its only a matter of time before the NWO takes over us all.

And I have a close friend who buys into Zeitgeist. It is a forbidden topic, I start seeing red. Worse part is that she is pagan, shouldn't she know enough about mythology to say, "Wait, dude, Horus wasn't ever killed..."? Gah.

My favourite XKCD is about this, it must be a conspiracy.

It is my experience that NeoPagans don't know much about mythology. Or paganism for that matter.

She claims her mother worships the Egyptian pantheon.

Yeah.

Its odd because otherwise she is a very intelligent person, its just that she really wants to believe that Christianity is such an unoriginal rip off and the poor pagans are so persecuted. The most willful ignorance I ever saw.

It sounds like your problem with him was less about his theories and more about his way of being. I can understand that. Loud, overly confident or brash people annoy me too. Conspiracy theories I can enjoy however...

Honestly, his manner was the worst part of it, but his fucktardedly stupid ideas were the icing on the shitcake.

Polite conversation with someone you just met is not the proper time to showcase your gullibility and paranoia. Have the common courtesy to save it for the Internet so I can call you a shit-fucker.

Saya it's not the American's - its cats - with their beady little eyes and their attempts to use mind control on the rest of us. They spend their days plotting and scheming to take over the world.

I mean how many of us actually get out of our nice warm beds to feed them in the mornings and what do we get in return? Kitty loggies in the litter tray and the look that says "What!? you expect me to eat that???"

Sorry to hear he ruined your evening.

The thing that always breaks my heart, is when some one you know and love falls prey to some irritating conspiracy theory.. then ya have to de-programme them.
