The Virgin

This is something I've just brought myself to write after my girlfriend died last October from cancer. It's nothing special, just a final goodbye or a last step to closure - I'm not sure. Well, here it is.

Her lily skin, so cold and fair
Her ashen lips, her uncut hair
The fleeting beauty lying there
So unfortunately rare

Her fingers limp, tangled in mine
The lifeless eyes once so divine
The only love I'd never share
So unfortunately rare

The slender curve of her perfection
Her head facing in one direction
Always turned toward me
The things we'd never see

This virgin once was mine
Untainted, gentle mind
Unfailing, always kind
Stolen from my side

Our love was one that can never repair

So unfortunately rare
