Hmm, interesting post. I've thought about using myself as a decoration (ha, but really). After sifting through some dvds, I saw the Jeepers Creepers flick. From that I thought about maybe standing on a block or building a make-shift cross. Maybe do a couple evening hours, and when someone drives by, maybe move around or jump down and see if I can scare people driving by. (Sigh, hope I don't get shot.)
You can get clear sewing thread and run it across your yard in different ways. From there, you can suspend stuff and it will appear to float in mid air.
When it come to lights, a small 60 watt bulb can light up a porch. On the real cheap cheap, you can paint your light bulbs and put them in the end of a drop light. Just make sure the paint doesn't burn to bad or contacts anything that will catch on fire.
Remember small LED lights and glow-sticks can be used for just about anything and are insanely cheap (well, depends on how many you buy.) You can take an old fan, glue or tape the glow-sticks to the blades, and wah-lah, cool light effect.
Soldering wire can be bent into shapes and forms and can hold lights, sheets, or whatever in cool Halloween shapes.
Colored craft paper cut into 2 by 2 open ended square can be set on the ground for cool light effects. A candle or glow-stick and light them up. Cheap, easy, no problem. If you use candles, just be careful about fire hazards.
Dry Ice. You should be able to get this from your local grocery store. Fill up a mop bucket, toss in a few small blocks, and presto. Smoke effects.
Halloween is a cool time to freak out and have fun (in safe ways). It's not a competition. Enjoy what you do.
