Hey! Whats up I'm new here

OKay so now that we're on the subject.

I'm trying to follow my therapist suggestions and get a new style to help with my self-esteem issue. I've liked the goth style like Sam Mason has on Danny Phantom so I figured why not give this a try I dig it. So I want to learn about "The Ways of the Goth".

Assuming this is an open community I'll tell you about myself I'm 18 years old and in 12th grade, live in SC, into Christianity, asexual, I'm all for animals rights and vegetarianisum, got two animals myself a black cat named Lucy(after Lucy Ricardo) and a black lab/shih tzu(mostly lab) puppy named Shadow, I like video games(Sonic is my fav), Anima, different kinds of music, art, Comedy, making people laugh, acting immature(love being young), pranking, reading, acting, and anything colorful and shiny. One day I hope to be an actor/comedian.

Welcome to the forums. You'll soon find out, I'm certain, that goth is much more than appearance. Everyone has different opinions of the subculture's ideoloy, but collectively, it's a love for and fascination with all things dark, frightening, sickening, and taboo. It could be described as a bleak outlook on the world, a sad-but-true observation of the way things are in the world. If you need to work on self-esteem, though, the goth subculture might not be a good idea. People will point and laugh constantly at anyone that doesn't dress in favor of the current fashion trends. People get intimidated by those who appear different, and will react in a rude manner. Before you start entering the subculture, you need to understand this. It may take some time (it did for me), but once past that point of insecurity, the realization that you're dressing the exact way you want will boost your self-confidence greatly (at least I think so).

I think this therapist is a bit messed up. The best thing for self esteem is not changing one's appearance but maintaining what one already IS. If you try to fit into a subsulture that you're not aquainted with then that leads only to more confusion and uncertainty. If you try to be something you're not, it will make you think that what you really are is just no good.
But if you're "goth"-ish anyway, then I wish you good luck with you new image and give the rest hell.

I have people giving me crap alot but I just tell them to blow it out there nose or anyother funny line I can come up with. Don't care what they think I like to be my own individual if they don't like it too bad live with it. But my therapist is a smart guy and it has started working out for me now that I have something else to like about myself.

I also think it's a bit odd for a therapist to actually encourage you to go change yourself. Mine is always more about being happy with yourself whoever you are, which I don't really have a problem doing, but she has to make sure I know. If it's helping you, then it's helping, it just seems like the opposite of what most therapists would do. But then, assuming you were trying to be something you weren't and that was the root of the self-esteem problem (all this is hypothetical, I'm not trying to tell you about your life when I don't even know you, heh) being able to change yourself to something you like and feel comfortable being could actually help with the self-esteem, so maybe it's not so odd, just uncommon to hear of. Hm.

Now that I've rambled all over the place, welcome! You seem awesome enough, you'll probably fit right in here. Goths come in a wide range of personalities, and as long as you don't attempt to kill Jillian or go around screaming "Look at meeee!!!! I'm gawth cuz I gotz a black shirt!!!" you shouldn't have problems. However, if you did scream that, it'd be pretty entertaining...

Hello, people, I´m here for today.
Oh, and, let me introduce myself for ShadowGirl. Hi, I´m a wannabe wannabe (I´d be a full time wannabe, but Hot Topic is oh so expensive), and I like you already.

I´m not sure about what are you asking, but I liked her because she likes Sonic
Of course, I´ll have to check her posts to get to know her, but aaaaaahhhh, I love Sonic! (or maybe she only likes Shadow?)
