| Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

The Mission!
It was brought to my attention be Beowulf that there's a distinct lack of a Mission thread- this despite multiple threads dedicated to Manson, Slipknot and CoF! So this is now being remedied.
For those of you who don't know of the Mission (shame on you!), they were formed when the Sisters Of Mercy schismed. Basically, Andrew Eldritch went and pissed off most of the band, so most of the band left to form a new band. That band was initially called The Sisterhood, but Eldritch felt this was too close to the original Sisters of Mercy name and promptly engaged in a race to be the first to put music out under that name and prevent the other group from using it. He won, with a strange demo album.
Having been defeated in this, Wayne Hussey and friends had to find a new name, and decided upon The Mission. You'll sometimes see then referred to as the Mission UK, because there's an American band called the Mission (Christ-rock, I think). The Mission have used the experience they gained with tSoM combined with new members and less ego to produce some great songs, and have become almost as much a staple of the true Goth Night as the original Sisters were- Tower of Strength and Wasteland are particularly popular, and Evangeline strikes a chord at any Domination theme nights.
So know you know. And now we can talk about it. What's your favourite song? What's your favourite album? Why didn't you know who they were?

Woo! A Mish thread! I'm a fan. I love 'Evangelean' and 'Bridges Burning'. I actaully don't have any of their albums. In fact I'm gonna buy 'God's Own Medicine' right now via Amazon. I keep meaning to get it but I just keep putting it off... Until now.

Ohmefuckengoth!
I love the Mission.
I dare to say that I prefer them over the Sisters of Mercy. Especially their song "Beyond the Pale".

I rather like them. Beyond the Pale is an amazing song, and although Amelia is sort of creepy (in a father-******-his-daughter kind of way, not the goffik way), I still can't help but love the tune.

My favourite Mish song has to be `Tower of Strength` and the 12" version sounds awesome on Vinyl !!!

I like Evangeline... possibly because of a matching dominant personality :P
Tower of Strength is a good one, though, used it to convert an indie-kid to the dark side. He's still an indie kid, he just has expanded musical horizons. He likes SoM and Cruxshadows now, too.

How could you dare such a thing? Although I love The Mission nothing can take the place in my heart where SOM Resides. =] but that's my opinion I suppose.

I find the singer's voice to be better; clearer, more melodic, and more distant.

They have different places to me... The Mission tend to have livelier songs, better for dancing to- but I prefer Eldritch's vocals.
And despite the remarkably similar line up, the two bands have a very different sound.

The band sounds interesting, I'll have to give them a try.
When you compare them to The Sisters of Mercy is there much in common between the two?

XD, I was mostly referring to the sound. What I meant was, does their music sound anything like The Sisters of Mercy?

I definately like Eldritch's voice better. His voice makes SOM. I love it, and I find myself trying to mimic it all the time. Speaking of Andrew I had a dream last night I met him. Then I woke up and was pissed off. =\

The Doktor is very important... the Doktor is also very dangerous, as illustrated in Nice Hair.

Ahhh! I love the Mission, one of the first bands I was introduced to ( not to mention goth music in general thankyou very very much bones!!!!). I saw them play at the rock cafe (no, not the chicago type. A dingy cramped little place in my town)
last september.
They were FANTASTIC. Butterfly on a wheel was brilliantly done, as was Wasteland and Amelia. The whole place was singing and the atmosphere was great. It was absoluteley RAMMED in there too, and so hot I could bareley get my breath!!
I hope they play there again soon, I intend to be nearer the front next time around!!!

I know many things.... most of them pretty useless. I have a knack for accidentally proving useful.
There's more stuff in the Webcomics thread.
