He tormented the animals and didn't teach anything of use. It was just some mad Aussie bloke taunting creatures that should have been left alone.

I was absolutely stunned when I heard about this, this morning. My boyfriend told me when he called. I didn't believe him at first. I thought he might eventually get killed by some sort of animal, but this was just freaky!!!!! I mean he's got 2 kids too. That's really sad.

I feel so bad for his family. I didn't ever really watch the show, but it's kind of crazy to think that he's dead. I mean, whoa. This reminds me of when the lady who was the puppetmaster for Lambchop died. I felt so weird watching that show for like, a month after I found out because I knew I was watching a dead person who had just been alive some time before. I'm glad Steve didn't get eaten by a crocodile, though, because that would have been a very tragic thing for his family to have to live through. Not that death by sting ray isn't tragic, just that being ripped to shreds by a crocodile is more dramatic.

Ahhh I heard about this, this morning. I wasn't very shocked though. Why should anyone be? He does tend to be a little crazy. Ah dosen't he have like a newborn now? That's sad. Stingray death..who would have thought?

I dunno I just thought he'd have gone out with more of a bang... more carnage. Like if he'd been mauled to death... shredded beyond recognition. But oh well. I suppose he couldn't control which irritated creature would do him in.
And about releasing footage, I too am curious.
Though I bet it would cost an absolute FORTUNE for the press to get ahold of.

It didn't come as much of a surprise to me that the poor Croc Hunter died making one of his documentaries. I wonder what the odds were that a stingray would get him in the end. I'd never heard of them killing anyone until this morning.
It's a shame to see him go; he brought me many a smile when I was little.

Look at it this way, he died what he love doing, which is a privilage that very few of us get.
He loved the thrill and the scares, he loved being put to the edge of death. He was paid to risk his life, and thats what he enjoyed doing.
I feel sorry for his family, and his children. Though everyone knew this would happen one day.

I remember one time when I was smaller, about...6 or 7, and I threw a fit because my mom wouldn't let me get a steve irwin action figure...
I still wish I had it though....

Thank you! You're the first person I've agreed with.
Steve Irwin was a nutter, and he had it coming. For an 'environmentalist' he was terrible to animals. In fact back in June, 2004 he got into a lot of trouble for harassing a group of whales and penguins in Antarctica, and an enemy of the whales is an enemy of mine!
Someone like that shouldn't be a role model to kids on how to treat nature.
Good riddance to him, I say. Although I do feel sad for the family. And you've got to admit... that's a pretty awesome way to die.

What did he do anyway? Didn't he just catch the crocodiles and release them in his zoo or something? I don't really know, apart from his 'baby-feeding' scandal and antartica scandal. I mean he wasn't just poking them for fun right.

He did a lot of great research...and by putting his explorations on TV, he let a lot of america know what's out there to be discovered/found.

If America had any interest in television programs that didn't involve some guy with a funny accent provoking crocodiles then maybe David Attenborough could have brought its attention to wonders of the natural world.
And 'great research' and discoveries are done by proper naturalists, not entertainers. My own mother has species named after her - so where on earth is Crocodylus irwinus?
Arrrgh, sorry if I sound a bit disrespectful to the dead and all. I just really don't think Steve Irwin deserved all the praise he got (especially after disturbing all those whales...grrrr).
