Victorian lady/ Longing - Two poems
Thought I'd post some of my poems here on Gnet again - comments are much appreciated. =) These are only two of a great many I've written, and perhaps the two most stereotypical. I always avoid stereotypes and "angsty" kinds of poetry, but I figured the stereotypes might work well some times, too... Oh, and just to say, I'm not really into "traditional" style poetry; so any metres and rhymes are purely accidental.
Victorian Lady
Victorian lady,
elegant you go,
tripping down the street;
black laces, corset and your hair a shade of gold,
Victorian lady.
But deep down inside,
behind the lovely face
there is only one thing: pain
for her love, he left her long ago
and now she loves in vain.
Victorian lady,
oh, Victorian lady.
Can you walk on, little lady of mine,
can you bear the mask once more?
Will you stay or go to cry
in solitude: "Oh, but why?"
And she sighs and mourns
the doll eyes brimmed with tears;
a soul of lead caged underneath
that beats: "in vain, in vain!"
Victorian lady,
Victorian lady,
don't cry, Victorian lady.
But deep down inside,
where her real self does hide
there is naught but pain and grief
and a burning heart and memories
and broken hopes and dreams.
Victorian lady,
Victorian lady.
Longing
A darkened room,
a creaking door,
a floorboard creaking low,
a mansion full of dreams.
So alone it stands
on that silent hill,
wondering
where time stole past
that ancient window sill.
An end or a beginning?
Who can ever know?
But where ever my heart will take me,
there I shall also roam.
But in faery hour
when the moon stands still,
and a moth flutters quietly away,
I lean against the ruined walls
and dream of other days.
