Memoirs of a Geisha
http://movies.**********/shop?d=hv&id=1808405115&cf=info
This is the best link I could find for this movie.
The book was awesome, so I'm definitely up for seeing this movie. That and Zhang Ziyi is acting as Sayuri. She's sooo pretty.......
So see it everyone.

I have the book in a to read stack at home, it's been there for quite some time and I keep putting more books atop it...but I saw the promo for the film the other day and it looks quite good. I think I'll wait to read the book now until after the movie comes out (December right?) and that way I won't be disappointed by any omissions.

This is all there is at the moment. Take a second and look to the right where they have the remake OF THE FOG LISTED!!!111 WTF?!
First off you don't remake a movie that had the great Tom Atkins in it, you sure as shit don't omit him from the remake! >_<
Sorry I digress...
That was a great read and I was enjoying it before someone borrowed it and never returned it. Same person borrowed "Snow Falling On Cedars" but I anticipate "Geisha" moreso than I did for "Cedars". December, eh? Maybe I can treat myself to go see that and call it a b-day present to myself.

Yes, Al I saw the Sony Pictures poster for it too. I just chose the yahoo site because it let's you see the trailer as well as give a brief synopsis.
As for the book, were I in Portland I would gladly let you borrow my copy. Or I could just ship it to you...........well either way maybe you should get another copy because it really is a great read.

If you get a chance, even though it's Chinese and you like me are facinated with all facets of the Japanese culture, you should either rent the movie or read the book (she has THAT TOO!) called "Raise the Red Lantern".

Well.. The Gear in the screenshots is really inaccurate for a geisha.. suitable for a yuujo but not a geisha...

They just showed a preview of this during Nip/Tuck on FX. It looks like it might be worth taking my girlfriend to.

I bought the book 'Memoirs Of A Geisha' to read and keep for myself. A mind-gripping read. I hope the movie is a good portrayal of the book itself. As, I'm usually not keen on movies thats based on the book itself.
I read somewhere that Zhang Ziyi had to learn Japanese in order to act the part in this movie. It will be interesting to see how she performs on screen as a Geisha and how well she plays this role. I think she is a charming performer in art house/drama/romance/action movies.
The book was a pearl....and hope the movie is just as good.

I absolutely loved the book, but have yet to see the film. It certainly looks visually stunning. I certainly hope they put as much effort into the the writing as they did on visuals.

Too bad the film sucked......sucked....oh, so fucking horribly shitty....will probably get the "freak factor" out in droves like "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory" did....and this sucks even worse than Burton's latest cinematic abhoration......

I love the book and the movie. It was really well done, in my opinion. Everything was so pretty and just looked poetic, was the book was written.

I suggest you read the book. Books are usually better than what is delivered on the screen. And this book is absolutely wonderful, what imagery. My copy is beaten from the numerous times of re-reading it.
It's really that bad, Loy? I had such hopes for it. I guess I'll have to see it soon and decided for myself.

I think the movie was visually arresting, and Ziang Ziyi looked absolutely gorgeous!
I will say that I did like the book much better than the movie. I felt that the movie lacked the soul and the feeling that the book had. It was somewhat "bland". But the visuals, oohhhh the visuals...

I don't really think she learned to speak Japanese per say, after watching the movie she doen't really speak that much of it. Besides, I believe she only learned the phrases she had to learn to say in the movie, which isn't really learning Japanese.
I'll let it slide though cause I thought she was a bit charming as well

So this was probably the best movie I've seen in a few years... and I go to the movies about 3 times a week.
The acting was impeccable. I don't really know, something about it just had me.
