Wavy Hair -> Straight?

This forum seems to have the most threads out of all the forums combined! So here is one more (and yes, I searched for one that was along this topic but did not see any).

I want to have hair like Blixa Bargeld:

but my hair is really wavy. Even when I blow dry it and use Redken Number 12 "Align" to straighten it out, and thoroughly saturate it with pump hairspray, by lunch time the locks over my forehead and sides are flipping up.

What the hell can I do to make it stay straight? Is there such a thing as a "perm" to make hair straight? Sorry, I am but an ignorant man and know not of such things.

Let the flames spout forth if this is a lame post.

Yes chemical straightening does work when done by the right hair dresser

You can get a perm to make it straight. It will look retarded while it's growing out though.

Yeah, I was thinking about how I would take care of it while it grows, I asked my wife, but she has straight as an arrow hair, as does my daughter, so when I asked them both they just shrugged.

You can invest in buying a hair straightener, commonly called a flat iron. I have wavy hair, and when I want to straighten my hair out, my flat iron always helps me.

Those are some good flat irons, just choose the one that fits your hair care style.

To prevent flyaways and the puffing-after-affect after flat ironing, use this product. It always helps me as well:

If you are unsure about relying on the flat iron alone, you can still use the straightening creams and spray before using the flat iron. A trick I use, do not only rely on flatening in one side. If there is a problem bit, seperate the still-wavy hair and straighten it all around, like position your flat iron sideways, and target it at the problem piece.

I love my flat iron. It is really hard to use if your hair is short, though.

Chemical straightening works to a degree, but it will never get your hair 100% straight. It is designed for people who have curly hair to settle it down into a slight wave so they just have to blowdry it straight, therefore if your hair is already only wavey then it really isn't going to do a lot.

You might want to find someone with a flat iron that you can borrow before buying one, just to make sure that your hair isn't too short to use it on. And you really need to keep using a great conditioner if you are going to use the iron everyday because it will dry out your hair.

I'd offer to lend you my flat iron... if you want to drop past Australia to pick it up.

Your solution: Get a "Japanese Hair Straightener". It will make your hair as straight as any product out there. It's a long process, but worth it. :}

My co-worker has curly hair and he told me that he buys a relaxer and relaxes his hair. He said it's a cream that you apply to your hair. You apply it and brush it for about 30 minutes and then he washes his hair out about 3 times he said because it smells bad. But he said the end result is nice. It leaves his hair straight for a whole month. I never knew he had curly hair untill he told me. His hair looks pretty nice. I'm gonna try it out on my boyfreind because he also has supper curly hair.

You can try, like wishcat said, a relaxer. My mom and I use a clothing iron for straightening and it works like a charm, better than a hair iron if you ask me. more razor thin. Just make sure to condition well when you shower. You dont want to damage your hair =)

One piece of advice: if you do chemically straighten your hair, don't dor it too often, as your hair folicles will get damaged.

If you don't want to put chemicals on your hair, invest in a ceramic flat iron. I said invest, so don't run to the drugstore and pick up any flat iron you see. Invest in a professional ceramic straight iron. They can be purchased in salons. Ask the hair dresser which on he/she would recommend. CHI is good, so is Paul Brown. The iron might cost anywhere from $150-$300 but it is worth it. DO NOT use a clothing iron, that's just rediculous! Also, pick up some thermal protection serum. This helps give it a smoother look and helps protect your hair from the heat.

I quite like that picture your going for humane, think my hair is about that length too hmmm. Anyway yes I'll recommend hair straighteners too. Mine cost around £35 (roughly $70 at the moment I believe) though there are more expensive and better ones if you want them, but mine do the job. I have crazy hair before using them, if you like I'll take a pic after washing my hair when its at its worst and then after straightening. It really does work well. But no comments about the emoness of it, it just came out like that after I kept the back shorter than the front...

Combing your hair for an hour will do more harm than good.

When I was a wee girl I had quite the afro going on. Then one day my day took me to this black hairdresser who relaxed it. It'll stay straight for about a month before the new growth starts to become noticable, but from there all you have to do is just flat iron it every now and then.

If you want to use a relaxer, it's best to get a hair stylist to do it for you because you could mess up if you do it yourself and for some strange reason you can lose hair or get second degree burns if you fuck up. What the hell? Well, that's what I know.
A flat iron helps a lot. Make sure it's ceramic (most are these days) and tourmaline is a newer thing in straighteners which enhances the silkiness and lessens the frizz even more. If you're willing and filthy rich, get a Chi straightener. I've heard it's the best. I'm going to get a straightener sometime this summer when I have the spare change( I have money for a tablet and DS and I refuse to spend it) and I shall get in the thirty to forty dollar range because I am not privileged enough to spend hundreds of dollars on a Chi. Conair and Revelon are nice and cheap. But make sure to use a protective spray/cream. I use the Secret Weapon that Neurosis suggested and it's wonderful. But don't make the same mistake as I once did and buy a protectant which enhances curls...*ahem.* I only know so much because I too am looking for a way to straighten out my hair. Hope it helped!

I have a Revlon Tourmaline Ceramic straightener from WalMart that cost $30, works great! Be careful with relaxers, my aunt used to relax my cousins afro hair and ruined it. You really have to make sure you get a gentle formula one specifically for Caucasian hair and do a test first.

I had a similiar problem, my hair is wavy as well. It looks straight but it is very wavy at the extremes, and the longer it is, the more wavy it gets. What I do to solve this problem is use an iron, as someone posted earlier. It really helps, but the bad thing is you have to do it daily, or before you are going out somewhere. I have a normal iron, it does not have to be a proffesional one, and it works wonders.

I have thirty-two inches of heavy wavy hair (yes, that long and still wavy). Actually I need to remeasure it...I'm sure it's longer by now. xD
All I need to do is wash my hair normally (I normally have to use a deep conditioner anyway) and blow dry it out while brushing it. Then I take a straightener to it. My straightener is one of those cheap ones that was only about $17. Then I spray on salon quality hair spray (the kind that you can't tell you even have hair spray in your hair 'cause it leaves it so soft).
It works wonders although it's annoying to do every day. I usually wear my hair up so I bypass having to do that everyday. :]
