Ahab -Vs- Celestiial

Doomy boys and girls,

In my personal opinion the best funeral albums of last year are Ahab's Call of the Wretched Sea and Celestiial's Desolate North. I however cannot decide wich of these two are better. So I'm asking your opinion. If you post please explain why.

I love Celestiial's Desolate North because the unique feild recordings of nature and so much texture to the music itself. The melodic intermissions are beautiful. The vocals are perfect, sometimes they sound as if they're the wind itself speaking.

I love Ahab's Call of the Wretched Sea because it's gorgeous. Behind all the slow torment in the music there is a layer of beauty. I know that's common with most doom but it's not like this. Very few doom albums strike positive emotion, this is one does. Besides that simple fact, it's extremely heavy, it's always intresting and very well orchestrated. I can't pin point one specific reason. It's just good.

Guess it's just me and you Elliot. Doesn't seem to be many doom fans around these parts.

Heh - what did you expect? Personally, I prefer Death rock/ dream pop/ shoegazer to doom, as an alternative to gothic and classical music. As for funeral albums, I know that if I ever get anything to say on this topic, I want Dead Can Dance's "From the Within" played at my funeral. Especially track 14, "Sanvean", which is absolutely lovely.

Doom like all other forms of music has a bunch of different sub-genres. In this case I was talking about "Funeral Doom" not songs to be played at a funeral.

Atleast you know what you want played at your funeral though.

Well, I'm not too sure of the attention spans of members here, because if they're short, I wouldn't be suprised no one listens to funeral doom.
