the Specimen

Yes, there's a "the" in their name. Anyway, what do you think of this influential goth-glam deathrock act? They were the house band for the Batcave club in the 80's and only released a few EPs and singles, but I love them to DEATH!

I love all their music, but I guess "Stand Up Stand Out", "Returning From a Journey" and "Holes" are my favorites.

To add to the excitement, I thought I'd announce to anyone that hasn't heard yet that the Specimen have re-formed and are releasing an album titled "Electric Ballroom" in June of '07. It features all the original members. I'm definitely BUYING this fucker. I also wish I knew where to send a thank-you gift to them.

Gothic Rock Glam Deathrock Punk DIY (list goes on) LEGENDZ...
Anyway, yeah, I'll never forget to buy this new album-I was going to report their comeback seeing their new website and myspace but I want to keep it for Ed to expose the fame.
'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang', 'Hex', and 'the beauty of poison' are my personal favourites. The beauty of Poison is like my anthem. I also like your (Address Unknown) cover of 'Stand Up Stand Out', you got the vocals down.

Aww that's so sweet!

And thanks for the compliment. I didn't think I sounded very good at all. I also covered "Baby Turns Blue" by Virgin Prunes.

I've loved everything I've heard of them, which I admit, isn't a lot. I like how they're dark...but almost not at all. They're upbeat and fun, but still with that...feel to them.

I feel that's one essence of gothic rock. I mean, look at Siouxsie's "Peek-a-Boo". It's a completely upbeat song whose sound borders on bubblegum pop. But read the lyrics and you'll uncover some VERY dark secrets.

And Vyvian, I actually covered "Caucasian Walk", not BTB. Sorry about that; I always confuse those two.

Let the revival commence.

Honestly, I'm falsely hoping they will show these poseurs on MTV how it's fucking done.

June is the month I've been waiting for in this year.
I wonder if they will reunite for more than just the album.

I already made a thread on Specimen! Agh!

I guess its not my fault that every thread I make about a good band is thrown onto page 2 in place of crap like "omgg I liek AFI and Evanencences LULZZZZZ".

I love Specimen to death though. Hahaha.

Then do what I'm doing: buy TWO (or more) copies of their forthcoming album. Let's also pray they make t-shirts! *.*

Good thing you tell me that now , I was confused last night thinking it was baby turns blue. I kept waiting for the 'O what to do, what to be and who are you wh0???'
Still good though...I agree with you and Opheilia, some of the Virgin Prunes sounds like pop-but then hearing the lyrics or the themes becomes overwhelmingly dark. But Siouxisie does that a LOT-one my favourites 'Dazzle' has such an emotional beat-then hearing the lyrics---

Sallowing diamonds, a cutting throat, your teeth when you grin reflecting beams on tombstones...

Indeed, a strong essence of goth rock.

Lykiaos, I remember seeing a poster that said 'The Specimen' for the Batcave in their usual lettering-not sure if they shortened it or not...

I wonder if that poster was designed and put out by them, or if it was done by somebody else. I'm not saying a different band, but rather that it's possible they did not make that poster.

I've always heard/seen it as Specimen, have read articles dismissing the misconception that there is a 'the' in the name, and would argue that there is indeed not.

Gooht...well, now that I look at it could have been desighned by one of the people in the hotel, but I do remember seeing them referred to as 'The Specimen' I still perfer Specimen though, so to me it doesn't matter.

Yes, there is a problem with them often being incorrectly referred to as 'The' Specimen.

Also, there was this youtube interview with the band. BOTH Olli and the guitarist refer to the band as "THE Specimen". It appears to have been deleted though. Thank god I still have it.

Actually, I don't have it. x_x But look at this:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ecimenmenu.jpg
That one lacks a "The", so maybe they can be called Specimen with or without the "the". Let's just enjoy the music, eh?

I hear this new album doesn't have Ollie or Johnny in the main line-up. They make contrubutions to the album, but they aren't part of the main reformation.

Wait...what are we talking about?
But seriously, I'm gonna give the album a try...I mean after all, Specimen (I just can't use the "the"...sorry Ed!) was the first deathrock band I severly listened too (thanks Haunted)...so yea.

[The] Specimen are absolutely amazing. They were the second gothrock band that I listened to, and fell in love with.
