I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has an interest in history and, if so, what period?

Personally, I find the history Western imperialism to be fascinating: the late 19th century scramble for Africa in general, and the British spheres in particular.

Colonial to Antebellum United States, Tudor era Ireland and Scotland.. and yet my major wa sin art history, focused on the Late Medaevil to Early Baroque in Italy and France.

Sounds interesting. My education in art is a bit lacking, but I can say that I've got a Hieronymus Bosch poster in my room.

I notice you made Antebellum a proper noun, indicating that it is a specific epoch. My education in American history is also lacking; which war does this period extend up to? Civil? The Great War?

Typically Civil War, at least that is the context most US Historians use.

One thing I am getting into is 1865-1915 communitarian "Utopian" societies (Fruitlands, Oneida, Rugby, Nashoba, New harmony...) It's tangental to the American (I mean US by "American" here, but it is called the "American Transcendental Movement") Transcendental movement. Hawthorne wrote the Blithdale Romance based on some of his experiences, it's fun to pick out the characters and their historical counterparts...

and Peter S. beage ("The Last Unicorn" wrote a book on Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights. Bosch is not one of my faves, but his overkill imagery (Catherine on the wheel) is fascinating

Indeed, even though Hawthorne expressly denies that his experiences on the commune had any influence on "Blithedale." That, in my mind, is a crock of shit. He drew heavily on that experience in writing "Blithedale."

Zenobia is Margaret Fuller. Anyone that says otherwise is deluding themselves. It is a good read, though. Look into the Oneida Community... talk about interesting but doomed concept. Neat silverware though.

I happen to like 1400s - 1600s. I loved the drama with Henry the VIII in the 1500s. And in the later years i love the art associated with the renaissance times.
If anyone paid attention to my pictures i posted up you would see i am in a period correct re-enactment facility used to educate and entertain people of the renaissance era.

Re-enacting sounds fun. Have you ever been to the Higgins Armory museum in Worcester, Mass.? It's supposedly one of the largest collections of medieval arms and armor this side of the Atlantic. A nice place to visit now and again.

I, also, like this time period. It was the most facinating era of all time (or so is my opinion)!

Another era of history that I am prone to gorge (sp) myself into is the ancient. The Egyptians, Aristotle, Greece and Rome, etc.

I love to read historical fiction, watch historical films and generally am interested in history. In particular, the Mediaevil period, the Renaissance, the French Revolution and anything about China, Japan, India, South Africa and Russia. However, I hate Canadian and particularily Québecois history. I've been learning them for the last 5 years and am really sick and tired of learning about our settlements, colonies and development. I'm a bit of a history geek. I'm taking Histoire de l'Art as well as Histoire du Québec et du Canada (not of my own free will) next year. I got a 99% average in history last year.

I'm fascinated with the Roaring Twenties, and also the 30s and 40s in the US. I also have a love for the Industrial Revolution, and going back further, the 16th century (particularly US.)

It's those kickass tricorne caps, you know.

My fascination with history ebbs and flows depending on what mood I’m in.

Currently it’s WWII and the things that I’m finding fascinating are what most people DON’T know about WWII.

For example Hitler and most of his Generals all were into Mysticism and the Occult.

Here are some random fact I learned about Nazi’s and Mystism.

1.Hitler believed that Atlantis existed and that all the people were the children of god. He believed that all of the people in Europe’s blood were tainted because of improper breeding (as he called it). Hence why he believed he could make the perfect race by eliminating (killing) everybody that was considered inferior.

2.He arranged all the holidays & religious ceremonies to correspond with all ancient German & European beliefs. For example when people got marries there was a bowl of salt and bread near the alter to symbolize life and fertility. Also he kept all the holidays but for example instead of Christmas they had something to the equivalent of Winter Solstice.

3.In addition to invading all the countries Hitler had a special army unit that kidnapped children that he considered to be of Aryan heritage. He then would brainwash them by putting them in Hitler’s Youth in Germany.

4.I can’t remember the name German term but there was a breeding house that was exclusively made so Aryan men would breed with Aryan Women. When the women gave birth the children became the property of the state. During that time all men (that Hitler considered of Aryan heritage) were encouraged to be promiscuous and have affairs.

5.Hitler commissioned a castle exclusively so Mystic and Occult practices could be made. When the castle was completed more than a third of the men that built it died. When the Allies were successful in some of their battles Hitler believed that the Americans were using Mystism too so he commissioned astrologers and psychics to see where Allied battleships and soldiers were located.

6.Shortly before Hitler’s loss and defeat one of his Generals (I forget his name) commissioned a astrology reading in to see if he could pull of a successful coup. During the reading not only did it predict Hitler’s death it also predicted the defeat of Germany.

Before learning about this I just though Hitler was just evil but not only did I learn he was evil, he was nuts too.
