Four dead in Ohio.
I don't know if anybody else found this noteworthy, but it looks likely that the truth about Kent State is finally going to come out.

I have been following this as well. I am waiting to see if they will find out who actually gave the order, as that person should be brought to justice.

Yay, more to chalk up to Ohio's reputation. I hate living here as much as it is.

Next time it may be you.
But I won't count that chicken before it hatches. No one cares about you enough to shoot you. i guess you'll die old, pathetic and alone.

I heard the phrase "Justice delayed is justice denied"... but what about the opening of old wounds, all the same? A second grieving process, fresh anguish...
I am definately NOT saying that what actually happened does not matter, but you have to wonder about the motives of doing it now and what would it accomplish decades after the fact. Closure, I guess. Seems like you only get closure after you re-open the cut.
I wonder if it is worth it? Really not in a place to say.

In personal wounds and scars I would agree with you Molly, but in this case my personal opinion is that a periodic reminder is good for the nation and for the government, to remember the mistake so as to avoid repeating it.

I just wonder why, if you knew you had such footage, why wait? Why now? VT, maybe? Something new against martial law and policing? Who knows. I hope the political gain outweighs any further personal pain to those involved.

Hey at least you don't live in the same state and right next to the county that Jeffrey Dahmer lived in. He was sentenced to 15 life time sentences and 937 years, and they didn't even charge him for all his killings. Even the prisoners were disgusted with him to the extent they made 2 attempts on his life in two years, the second one finishing him. They even demolished the apartment building he lived in at the request of everyone, and to this day remains a vacant lot. I will not get into more detail about what he did to his victims especialy after their death but here is a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Dahmer.

More like rebreaking a bone that wasn't set right the first time, I think. Kent State left a bad taste in a lot of mouths because they heaped insult and lies upon death.
The papers started out saying that several guardsmen had been seriously injured or killed, which was totally untrue. The Nixon administration pretty much said the victims had it coming. Absurd lies about snipers were invented to get the shooters off the hook - and it worked, as always.
What we're looking at now is proof of what everyone, including a good chunk of the mainstream, has suspected the whole time: soldiers extrajudiciously executed kids for opposing a war.
"Closure" here is more than just knowing what happened for sure and letting go. It's knowing that even if America isn't an exception to the rule that these things happen, at least in America, the truth can come out. Just as it already has about Tonkin Bay and the other travesties that made the Kent State massacre possible in the first place. These things do matter.
