The Thing I DO Lament
After the toils of my day
Honey, I'm home, but some thing's astray.
Sweetie, where are you?
Bedroom, bathroom, living room, the back...
Cold... hell couldn't thaw my frozen veins.
The air no longer exists, when you're lying there
All dead and lying in your blood, dry and black.
God, NO... Please god, no! Oh god...
My legs buckle beneath me, they can't hold their charge.
God... this can't be real
Tears are but beads of sweaty fear, when cold shock is all you feel.
Jesus... why? No signs of drainage I couldn't find
When I picked up your frail body in my bind
Good memories shattered like glass
In the hard, cold truth of my once living lass.
Why? Why did this happen? Why do you leave me here alone?
I loved you.... I FUCKING LOVED YOU!!!
These sobs forever echo off these walls, that once was my home.

A very moving poem. I rarely read poetry, I've read far more on here in the past few days than I have in the last year anywhere else. Probably because I find it easier to understand a complicated plot in a book than complicated metaphors in poetry. But the undisguised emotion in this is very powerful. I had a dream something like it whilst going out with my last girlfriend. I just hope that this isn't telling the story of something that actually happened.

Metaphorically, it IS happening. But there's nothing I can think of doing to stop it or save IT.

That would explain the emphasis on "do" in the title then, and that case I truly hope you can get back to how you were before as quickly as possible. Unfortunately that can be a very long road, I wish you the best. Helplessness is a horrible feeling.

It's not happening to just me, it's happening to a community. They've shut down our local goth club with no rhyme or reason.

Oops, looks like I did misunderstand a metaphor after all. Sounds as if helplessness is a horrible feeling still applies

You didn't misunderstand anything. The whole poem was intentionally wrote that way. I wanted it to be about finding your love as dead. The closing down of my city's only goth club is what inspired the piece.

Ah I see, I should probably read some more poetry. I did used to like the war poetry we looked at in english, but that was very obvious what it meant.
Maybe a new one will take its place at some point, hope it does.

Sorry to hear that. Here where I live the last of the HR&M clubs shut down back in 1998. Then some clubs had only certain nights, like one night per week when they would do HR&M. Then, nothing. The average life span of a club is 4 to 6 years, if that. Then, the owners "turn them over", because that is more profitable than keeping the place going. They use it as a tax write-off, sell the facility to a new owner and go about their way. Such is business. There is also the issue of the owner seeing diminishing attendance over a long period of time, which they will interpret as "declining popularity of the genre of which the club was focused on." They will market the club in a different way to attract more clientele by offering what is more mainstream at whatever given time. They do not necessarily care about the few loyal patrons that they attracted by appealing to a "niche genre", as there is no potential of growing profit. It sucks, but that is how the business goes.
Nice poem, by the way.

Well, from what I can tell, the gothic community is pretty tight knit. We may, if we're lucky, be numbered in the hundreds. But we keep together and usually try to find things todo as a large group. I remember this one time, the goths of Louisville invaded the Cincinnati goth club at 50+ strong.
