The Fear of Falling

I stand on a rock at the edge of a mountain
And down below are the bones of many angels.
I can hear the piercing echoes of my tears
As they hit the bottom, my ears begin to bleed.

I can smell their bloody feathers.
They burn the lining of my nostrils
My heart enters my esophagus
And I leap…..

Down and down I go
Into the grey spiraling oblivion.
If I hit the bottom,
Will my bones turn to powder?
If I make contact,
Will my blood splatter and make a red ocean?
I don’t know, I guess…
I should lose my fear of falling.

Let’s see if these wings work.
Can they save me from the aftermath?
Am I closer to the freedom?
Freedom from the boiling sweat that sears my skin.

Afraid of nothing but this I’ve not seen,
I’ll break it one-way or the other.
Plummeting into the grey oblivion.
I go numb…….

Down and down I go
Into the cold stone of the black valley.
If I splatter along the surface,
Will I be able to be seen again?
If the sound of my bones cracking shatters the mountains
Will they ever find me?
Who knows, the only thing to do
Is to lose my fear of falling.

As I near the end,
My tears pierce my soul.
My heart is boiled by my fear
And I’m crippled from my inner tension.
The smell of the stone clogs my senses.
The sight of the bones makes me cold.
I spread these wings I’m not even sure I have.
And I lose my fear of falling.

It's interesting, though it seems a little forced with the morbidity. That's a problem of mine too. x3

It kind of reminds me of that guy on LSD who thought he could fly...

I liked it but I found the alternating symbolism and vivid reality somewhat unwieldy. But original and thought provoking.
