stereotypes of goth
Some people have said that if you are goth that you get depressed when you aren't depressed. Others, that most goths are mean...that they usually wear all black...and I don't know if I'm coming across right, but I was wondering if people would share some stereotypes of goths they know of or have encountered. I would be interested in what typical stereotypes are of goths and which ones are completely off and which are just sort of observations that people make.

Goth stereotypes are basically all over the media, mindless1. Depressed, Suicidal, Sexual Predators, etc. The one that really is out there is the stereotype that we want to kill people. Goth's foundation in music perfectly displays free expression and free will. In our subculture, the ideology/aesthetics clearly show that we don't want to harm people. Anyone's desicision to do so would not have anything to do with how goth they are, but their personal issues. Goth is not something that triggers violence, really. People should blame only themselves. The depression/suicidal thing is out there as well, because it's really rare that someone in our culture would commit suicide and be depressed. Again, anyone's actions involved in our movement would only deal with their personal mental issues, not those involving their subcultural identity. The only stereotype that's close to be fact is the usage of white make-up. Some deathrockers use it, but it's not soemthing reccomended for new comer babybats. So, to be a little simple: Homocide=Out there. Suicide/Depression=Observations with little communication (bigotry). White Make-up/BDSM=A bit close, occasionally associated with our movement. Sorry to have be so quick, it's just been so many times, really.
Goth Forever

Goth Forever

Stop making so many threads.

I think I saw a thread like this before, but anyway:
-All goths are satanists.
-Goths are obsessed with the occult.
-Goths are all homosexual (this one seems to stem from male goths wearing makeup and crossdressing/wearing "feminine" clothing; and from some female goths not looking "feminine" enough; it's a load of garbage)
-Goths can't go out in the daylight (*eye roll*)
-Goths are never happy
-Some people think goths are obsessed with drinking blood
-I even heard one conservative guy at college say something about goths being Nazis, which is absurd
-Goths only listen to metal (which, for true goths, is far from the truth)
-Goths literally can't wear anything but black (yes, some people are this dumb.)
And so on. Gah, typing that makes me hate stereotypes even more.

I didn't know there was a similar thread. I haven't heard most of those stereotypes you've posted...but I have seen on movies and have other people say that goths are generally depressed and like to be depressed.
That a lot of goths slit their wrists, wear too much makeup, and I never said that I beleived them either.
I don't think I'm posting too many threads though...this is like my third on here.

We all drink goats' blood, apparently. 'Least that's one of the better ones that I heard. I think the very idea is preposterous and sings a song of blatant ignorance; sheep blood is much finer.

That statement defeats itself.

I wasn't asking for anything, actually. I was pointing out something that you appear to be completely oblivious to. STOP MAKING SO MANY THREADS. As for your failed attempt at an insult, I say better luck next time.

I make relevant threads. What's wrong with me posting? I don't post as much as many of the others on this board. Maybe you just don't like the poster, if that's your problem, then don't read them.

No, the deal is that you are making many, many threads on topics that have already been addressed and beaten like a dead horse. If you like, use the search function for your basic topic and see if your topic has alreadly been discussed. If so, reply to that. Also, many of your threads are virtually the same topic. Redundancy is annoying.
Frankly, much of what you are doing that is pissing peopl eoff is not respecting the general protocol that this board operated under. Not "rules" per se, but guidelines to ease in instead of just sucking through like a gothy black hole.
One of the "sticky" threads is one that is for teh newbies and contains many general accepted notions of how this place works.
read it. understand it. make a fucking effort.
And if you can't deal, then leave.

There are many stereotypes with goths, most of which have already been said before. I believe that in reality there are very few to no stereotypes, and goths are really not what people think they are. The medio is what corrupts people and makes them believe a diffrent idea of what goths really are.

Much.
Not all.
