What is the strangest/funniest thing someone has said to you regarding Goth?

Due to a longterm battle with Anorexia/Eating Disorder and a past addiction to heroin I have lost some of my teeth, including one in the front. Before I had a partial denture made up someone actually asked me if I had blacked one of my teeth out as a Gothic fashion statement. Yes I am so Goth I pull my own teeth out ROTFLMFAO.

Ok share yours

Well, I can only resort to stereotypes. Apparently, I cut myself, and my favorite hobby is looking at others' scars because they are reminiscent of blood. I am and will forever be suicidal, I'm a lesbeian (not that there's anything wrong with it, but it's the principal that all Goths are lesbeians that irks me so tremendously.), I spend my free time writing shitty poetry about my pitiful life, I listen to Hawthorne Heights, Bush, The Offspring, and I probably smoke because it destroys my body. Oh yeah, and I'm not Goth because I don't paint my nails black; I'm gangsta, son .

As I've already mentioned on this board... somewhere... someone once asked me if I've ever committed suicide.

But stranger than that still was something a former tutor said to me when I was in college three years ago. She approached me in what I'm sure she thought was a subtle manner, asking me about my home life, my friends, my ambitions and then....

Tutor: I'm really beginning to worry about you. I know you Goths have a hard time, and your circumstances aren't great, but the self-harm won't get you anywhere.

Me: Erm... pardon?

Tutor: Your arms. They're covered in cuts, you don't even bother to hide them. You clearly want to get help!

Me: (Looking at the three -yes, THREE- cardboard cuts on my arm, incurred through opening boxes in my new job) I didn't do those myself, they're paper cuts... my new job, remember?

Tutor: There's no need to lie, I can see you need help.

Me: No, really. New job, supermarket, opening boxes... you were one of my references....

Tutor: Please, will you consider psychiatric help?

... she never got it. Clearly, to the "informed" mind, wearing black more than three days a week equates with a desperate need to self harm.

I posted the strangest thing that anyone asked me about it in the "Silly or weird conversations" thread, that's the one psyches_reflection is referring to... there are more people's funny experiences there too.

I couldn't remember what it was called, stupid as that may seem. Spent all day stacking shelves in Morrisons, trust me, it rots brain cells.

Two things, both which happened tonight.

Numero uno, a guy who added me on msn who wanted three, no, not two... but three pictures of my feet. This was apparently because he'd decided foot fetishes were gothic, and promptly chose to develop one. o_0 ( he got blocked, surprise, surprise)

Duo, a girl on vf ('cause its so goffick lyk omg omg) who had on her profile that she liked tons of gothic music including : MCR, Fall Out Boy, Blink 182 but most of all she liked Cascada.... *cue stunned silence*

Well, I was working at this place called Allied Workforce one morning, and I was waiting to get some work (It's an employment agency) and I was trying to converce with the lowlife's of my town (they truely are, we had a kiddy-fiddler come in and work there once.....>.<) and started the subject of what goths were. I kept my head down and asked what they thought real goths were. I got some really interesting answers as to what they thought the gothic subculture was and then they got down to the brass of what they thought real goths were. The best answer was; "Nah, those real gothic fucks are real good bastards. I remember some time I was down in Welly, and got on the piss with some of those bastards. Real good shit. One guy nicked a couple of bottles for us, had a great evening..."

Yay, we're connected to criminals as well.

I remember that there was a rumour going around, that on a school trip I cursed the hotel, which was why everyone got ill.

0_0

There was also this girl & we'd never spoken before, but she thought I put a curse on her, because I looked like I was muttering a spell under my breath according to her.

The funny thing is we are really, really good friends nowdays.

Though in my opinion, she's the weirder one.

I rather liked this one, but it's indeed funny: Some girl on the street halted me and asked if I knew who Andrew Eldritch was. I said 'ofcourse I do' and we chatted a while about his rather.. err.. bald look nowadays. Just as I was going away this girl blurted out: But you changed style, you look as you used to!

That was flattering, considering that 1. I'm not Andrew Eldritch. 2. I don't have black, semi-long hair. 3. We just discussed the fellow in question!

Silly girl. But she thought I was him because I dressed "goth"...

Lollers at Meth...

I guess what I get to hear is usually something along the lines of
1) "Hey, how's your depression going?"
2) "So, what was the last Nightwish album you bought?" (point, snicker)
3) *point at boots* "How're you supposed to walk in those things?" (I love platforms, the taller the better)

Not really funny, just annoying...

Back during the last school year in my world history class a discussion came up about Anna Nicole Smith (before she was dead) and I mentioned how I wished she was dead because of her bad influence. Not long after this she died and when the class discussed it they remembered my wish and a few scared looks. I have since then tried to test my luck out on Paris Hilton to no avail, though maybe my wish came true sort of through her jailing.

Yeah; writing poetry about vampires and cursing hotels. Aren't they the gothiest hobbies ever?
Now seriously... That was just hilarious

"I didn't know you lot were allowed out during the day"

Someone actually said that to me yesterday when I was waiting for my bus home from work. While wearing my completely non-Gothic work uniform, but the barest scrap of eyeliner. Go figure :P

When I get asked this annoying dumbass question:

"How's the stormy weather up there?"

My reply:

(Growls with a polite evil smile) "How's your new coffin DOWN THERE?".

My reply gets funnier when I see the "omg, I think I just shit myself" look on their faces afterwards. .

... If I hear that one more time, I'm going to pull out what is left of my hair. I also get comments such as:

“Why are you dressed up?”
“On you way to a picnic in the cemetery?”
“I thought you people only came out at night.”

And to top it all off, “Aren’t you too old to be a Goth? I thought that was just a phase kids went through.” O_o

Yeah, you've got to love how original those comments are.

The silliest comment I remember recently is probably, "The power of Christ compels you!"

Also, I was walking with a friend the other day and some guy in a passing car practically jumped out of the window to scream something like "Rooaaar" at us. Not sure what his point was, but I thought it was pretty funny.

Oh, today I was approached by a Jehova's Witness who wanted to save me from the powers of the Devil and eternal damnation. That was rather cute.

"Do you take showers? I hear gothic people don't bathe." Talk about harassment. I was asked this a few times by some sanctimonious black girls in middle school who were full of pseudo morals. Sorry if that sounds really wrong but that's what they were. And these people were serious about it. They had really bitchy attitudes about it too. To this day it is still the utmost offensive, unforgivable stupidity I have ever encountered, regarding my appearance.

I didn’t know suspicions of my personal hygiene could offend anyone especially since I have never had a body odor problem. And I’m OCD about my hygiene, so yeah.

What is happening to good old stereotypes these days? They're getting mixed up and thrown around everywhere they don't belong. It would have been a more appropriate question if I looked grunge kid, a scum punk, or a hippie. Not that people who look like that should have to deal with that kind of idiocy but it would at least be in the right place.

That happened to me before! I tried to get out of the conversation politely, but she kept insisting she knew why I didn't like Christianity (note: I never told her I didn't like it, I politely said I wasn't interested ). She seemed shocked when I told her I'd actually read a Bible before...
