School Goth Days

Is it just an american thing because I've never heard of it happening in Australia. Do they also have Prep days, Gangsta days, Wigga days, etc. I kind of find it insulting, like wheeee let's all dress up like the Goth kids. If I was a Goth on these days I would turn up in a full school uniform with absolutely no makeup on just to make a statement of how ridiculous this idea is.

Opinions?

See that's what I mean "inside out day, pyjama day" they are obviously silly fun days and then to have a "Goth day" along side that is like saying this subculture is a joke and deserves to be categorised in with something as silly as wearing pyjamas to school. I mean I know we can take a joke better than most and in the early scene especially there always was that sort of nudge nudge wink wink tounge in cheekedness about it, but this just seems far to much towards the realm of insulting in my opinion. Or am I overreacting?

I've never heard of anything like that. Then again, I think it would be unlikely for them to do something like that, especially around here.
During Spirit Week they just have stuff like pajama day, etc.

Although if they did have it, I might just have to find a cheerleading uniform to wear that day

I remember that people in my (former) class agreed on having "hippie" days and stuff like that, which was rather amusing. Also, a lot of us wore pyjamas to school as a part of our graduation time - we've got a custom here in Norway called russefeiring (I'm surprised to find an article on it on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russ), and the pyjamas thing was one of the nicer knots. Fond memories... Anyway...

We only ever had own-clothes-days, save for charity events like Wrong Trousers Day and sponsored fancy dress. I didn't mind too much, at least the uniform was black :P

Russ sounds like fun! The only tradition we have here when we graduate (or finish exams, or finish a school year...) is to go out and get hammered and make arses of ourselves. It's so damn unoriginal!

We never had a Goth day at our school, but way back when, most of the student body wasn’t aware there was such a thing.

We did have the usual, dress up day, pajama day, inside out day, Hippy day and most amusing of all, dress as the opposite sex day.

At my school there was never a goth day. I also agree that it is insulting, since then it would seem as the gothic subculutre is just a joke for them. At my school there is pajama day, hippie day, beach day, and other things, but I never participate in them. I find it stupid to go to school on pajamas or wearing beach clothes, especially since I hate both of those things. There will probably never be a goth day at my school, since they are against goths and punks, since they do not allow piercings, hair dye, chains or much jewelery.
