There doesn't seem to be much talking yet about this coming film, so I'm giving the news before they're even news. ^^

A film adaptation of the epic poem Beowulf is coming to theatres this fall.
It's scheduled to be released in November 16 of this year.

"A movie based on the most important piece of literature from the culture that spawned our current language? How could it be any better?!"

"Hollywood ****** another literary treasure to make it appealing to the average kitzsch-loving American? What's so great about that?"

Well, my friends, I have an answer to you both. Yes it will be great, and yes it is better than you think, because the screenwriters of the movie were Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary, and the director is no other than Robert Zemeckis, creator of the movies Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and The Polar Express (et cetera).

It's worth mentioning that Angelina Jolie is in the movie, and I don't like her acting, but she'll be Grendel's mother, so we know that they'll kill her, and that makes me feel warm on the inside.

Also, Anthony Hopkins will be in the movie as King Hrothgar.

It's the main actor of the movie Willard (which I also heavily reccomend), or, for a more common reference, Marty McFly's father in Back to the Future.

Oh I've known for like months. Maybe two years. I'm quite sure if I'm entirely happy with whats' happening:
The money-hogging bastards at Hollywood continually are bringing Neil Gaiman in to colloberate in writing 'Original' movies such as Beowulf, in which others would just be his adaptions (such as the released Stardust, and the currently filmed Coraline) because they've realized that his writing is 3,113x times better than all of the under-paid screenwriters in Hollywood.
Hopefully, Gaiman won't attain this success too much in the Mainstream Hollywood's pit of disater.

Oh yeah, forgot about this. I read about it in GameInformer... apparently, they're making a game, too. I'll be sure to see the movie at least.

I didn't know Neil Gaiman was involved in this film - he's been busy lately o_O

I think someone had tried to make this into a movie before, and it was a complete disaster. Despite the acting cast, I'm still somewhat doubtful that another attempt will break the cycle.

This movie is currently airing where I live so I only saw it a few nights ago.

Anyway - Since I haven't read the book I can't tell if it was a good reflection of the story, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. They did an amazing job on Angelina Jolie - when she first appeared I couldn't tell that she was animated.

But honestly though, impressive as the graphics are, I feel slightly 'cheated' out of a good story - like they spent more attention to the graphics than the script (Apparently the best way to see the movie is at an IMAX theater. Time magazine calls it a '3-Delirious' experience).

Still, it's not that I don't appreciate the graphic excellence of course, but I think they could have done more with the story.

I haven't seen it yet, but I plan to approach it in the same way I approached "300"- a good, vicious gore-fest in beautifully rendered CG with suspicious amounts of gratuitous violence and nudity. If there's intelligence, genuine plot or historical reference, I'll just consider it a great bonus.

It was all right. The action scenes were well-done (in my opinion), and the graphics were beautiful. However, it didn't play out like the actual poem; they added a lot of stuff in, you know, gave it that "hollywood flair" we all love... haha, right. In the end it was just another mediocre film that wasn't really worth the nine bucks I'd spent on my ticket.

I saw it in 3-D IMAX. It's the only way to see it. It was awesome sauced.

Mrs. Humane and I saw it a couple weeks ago, we both liked it. Well, ok, I loved it. Awesome effects. But...the story was altered form the original. But still good and worth seeing!

Lucky me, our Literature class is going to go see the movie. Flimsy excuse to get out of class but after finishing the literary work, I would love to see it on film. With today's modern movie magic, it'll be a nice retelling of the oldest English Epic recorded.

I watched the movie as well but didn't read it. I thought the movie was really good. I liked it a lot when it was playing. However, I thought the ending could have been better. Overall though, the graphics were really good and it was pretty cool.
