Two faces
I stayed with my friend and her family for a week in their RV (camping). During the trip they seemed surprisingly nice to me despite all the things my friend told me about them and their beliefs (being against bisexuality, not very tolerant to other religions and whatnot). However near the end my friend warned me that they will probably talk behind my back as soon as I leave.
Now you see this pisses me off. If you don't like me so much why do you make an effort to lie, or even let me go with you on the trip in the first place?

That's a poor excuse for human behavior.

This is not reality. People can decide not to do this; therefore, it can change, so there's no reason to accept it as something inevitable.
I understand your feelings GC.

People can 'decide' to do many things--but in reality they don't. They bomb abortion clinics, crash airplanes into highly buildings, create terror, kill animals, **** children, beat children, destroy children, repress homosexuals, steal, money-launder, mug, rob, beat, torture, kill, napalm, drop agent orange, nerve gas, atom bombs, etc.
This is reality: welcome to it.

It does suck that people do that, but a lot do.
I guess you can think of it this way. They don't like you, but at least they're trying to be nice.

Only to gain my trust so that they have more to discuss about me later on. But meh I suppose everyone has different values.

Maybe they just don't want to outright hurt your feelings?
Give people the benefit of the doubt sometimes. Besides, who cares what they think?

I would just ignore them. I mean yeah it is a poor excuse for human behavior but still, they shouldn't do that.

Well I sort of have to since if they don't think much of me, the chances of me seeing my friend again are minimal.

They seem to respect the fact that their kid likes you so chances are that wont change (unless they learn something new about you) and they were trying to be good hosts by being nice to you, if it was only to try not to make it an uncomfortable vacation

You should just ignore their talk about you. They've only lived with you for a week. Not enough time to get to know a person thouroughly, if you ask me.

At least you know how they honestly feel. It means you know how much you can share with them, and that you cannot tell them anything in confidentiality. You also know to not give them any extra reasons to talk behind your back.
Just be as well-mannered as you can around them, but keep your distance as well.

Fuck people are their opinions. A year from now, what some twits said about you behind your back won't matter in the slightest. You're you, they're not. You know what you're about and they don't and if you're wise, you'll keep it that way. You can't expect people to change their ways to suit you; they're going to think whatever they think and there's nothing you can do about that. So don't concern yourself with it so much.
