| Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

What do you listen to when you're depressed?
For me, it depends. It's usually the Cure, but if it's more of an angry-depression, then Bauhaus would more likely be my choice.
If I feel like wallowing for a while, then the Cure's "A Forest," "Lullaby," "Plainsong" or "Boys Don't Cry". If I want to be cheered up, "Fascination Street," "Close to Me," "The Caterpillar," or "The Lovecats" is in order.

I, sad as this is to admit, listen to M.ichelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton until I feel better. I also tend to drink more Coca-Cola than usual.

Good goth...Well, I love the Cure, they're always a companion in such times. But also is Christian Death; notably Theatre. The songs are really avant garde and well done. The Virgin Prunes (''Decline and Fall'' and ''Walls of Jericho'') and a lot of Bowie (''All the Madmen'' ,''Space Oddity'', etc.) as well.
Oi. I almost forgot Theatre Of Hate... everything from Westworld.

[Directed at Lapin]That made me throw up in my mouth a little, but I'll reserve judgement because I'm nice like that.

I listen to the Dresden Dolls, because they make me angry, and after anger I can go back to being happy and normal.

I usually listen to upbeat punk like the Misfits and certain Bad Brains and Rudimentary Peni songs. They bring me back up.

Depends on what kind of depression i fall into. Usually my sadness and depression turn into rage, so i'll listen to some form of metal music. Rammstein/OOMPH!/Eisbrecher/Metallica etc. Other times, if im actually depressed to the level of thinking of suicide, i'll listen to the same song on repeat just because it calms me down. "Mad World" by Gary Jules (written by Tears for Fears)

Lacuna Coil:
Humane
Swamped
Cold Heritage
Current Obsession
etc.
And I don't listen to them to cheer up, I listen to them to wallow in the feeling.

That partially sums up my musical tastes when I'm depressed. Only I'll listen to something with a mellow overtone (i.e "Cemetary Gates" by Pantera), or Grunge music, particularly the songs "Reach Down" or "Say Hello 2 Heaven" by Temple of the Dog. I find Chris Cornell's music in general to have a wonderfully cathartic quality to it. Otherwise, I might try to overcome my sorrow with fits of aggression and feigned apathy. In that case, I might listen to bands like KMFDM. Otherwise, I might try to become inspired to write; "Crowds" by Bauhaus,"Home" by Depeche Mode, or "Wraps and Arms" by Gene Loves Jezebel might be playing.

To perk up? I listen to the Jolly Rogers and the OffSpring.
To wallow (good distinction, HP): Jeff Buckley "Last Goodbye", "Lover, You should have come oevr", Mary Black "Paddy's lamentation", and the Tossers' "Everything's Bad"

Please tell me that was to mock Vyvian, and not to join in. If A, then you're not so terrible. If B, you're just a wanker.
When in a bad mood, Nine Inch Nails usually covers all bad moods, from angry to depressed to whatever. Most of it comes off of the same album too, The Downward Spiral.

"Fool in the Rain" by Led Zeppelin strangely makes me feel better no matter what. Or something loud and angry-sounding like the Distillers or Rammstein. Or Disney songs. Gotta love the Disney songs.

When I want to indulge in my depression, nothing works better than goth. Theatre of Hate's "Westworld" album is at the top of this list, with Virgin Prunes' "If I Die, I Die" following closeby. Though if I want a truly painful listening experience, I go straight for Burning Witch's "Crippled Lucifer". It's a kind of doom-meets-black-metal sound that's endlessly distressing. Hard to describe.

Mockery. How else could it be anything other than mockery? I mean, christ, no one can be that macabrely saccharinist. Don't read Vy's poetry or anything, spare yourself.
But make no mistakes, Duck is terrible. And a hell of a lay. A great and terrible lay.
The only reason Vyv is still here to remind himself why he carries the dark, black, webby cross. Can't have a martyr complex without bitching about how heavy the wood is.

If it's a problem with a girl, I listen to Hello by Lionel Richie, because it's appropriate.
Other than women, when I feel down, I realize it's stupid, so I listen to Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, from Monty Python, and start whistling.

I tend not to wallow in my depression, but when I do I'll listen to the Deadfly Ensemble. Listening to them never brings me down, but when I am they're good to pass the time. Especially "Flight of the Invisible Siamese Three-Year-Olds".

I dunno, I guess I'm a little perverse in that I actually enjoy being depressed a little bit. Not because I want to milk it for attention; actually when I'm depressed I'd rather be left alone, but because it gives me a chance to examine my feelings and learn more about why I feel the way that I do.

"The Bloodhound Gang" has a peculiar ability to brighten my dimmed mood under any circumstance. I can't help it, I have a cheap sense of humour.

I Will Follow You Into The Dark - Death Cab For Cutie.
Its one of those songs that you can wallow in and use it to cheer up.

When I'm down, and I don't know why, I will just start the cure and go through all of it, when I am down because of a girl, Bauhaus "Crowds", "all we ever wanted was everything", and bela lugosi's dead.
