Hiya I'm Alan :]
Well I came across your site when shopping for goggles one day (and I do believe another user has discovered you this way too ^_^ ) and after invisibly sulking about on your foruns for about a week, leeching fashion tips and the like, I decided to join your boards as you all seem like such a jolly lot! Now I could ramble on all day about how much I love the whole gothic way of life but I'll save that for later :P
I'm Alan! *waves*
I'm 17 and I come from that land far away over the Atlantic. Ireland!
I'm quite loud and very opinionated.
I'm small ... ish >_<
[Don't crucify me for this but] I LOVE color.
However I also like the allure of deep black.
I guess like everyone I've numerous parts to my personality.
I can be loud, and mightn't neccessarily appear the most intelligent person.
However I can also be quiet and observant.
And will ALWAYS listen to someone if they have a problem.
I love love love fashion.
But I'm not one of those sheep who just follow what's on the catwalks.
I've my own thanks.
I enjoy the company of people with wit and intellect and try to surround myself with those types.
I wear makeup sometimes but not so much nowadays [I've grown up?! LOL :S]
I'm pretty much a walking drag queen. Yay!
I could be considered a contraditiction because although I'd consider myself a "real" "to-your-face" person, I'm also incredibly vain X).
My favourite band "on the scene" would have to be Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows.
But my favourite artist of all time is Bjork.
My faourite colours are neon green, pink and aqua.
Oh and ..
I'M NOT A GIRL
Please be nice to me >.<
X <3

Nah, in here I'm Jillian. Doesn't make any difference but it sounds cooler.
You know, I used to know an Alan from Ireland, but I think he's 19.

It's cool when I find people that know about steampunk, but it's nevertheless not a real musical style. So I'm wondering, what types of bands come to your mind that you would call steampunk?

Yes, although steampunk isn't a style of music per se, there are a few bands I listen to (and adore) that evoke a steampunk image in my head. These would be bands like Abney Park, In The Nursery, Bedrich Smetana, Dr. Steel and some Sopor Aeternus, notably Flowers In Formaldehyde.
Although the "steampunkness" of these bands is debatable, I'm quite sure that this is the closest we can get nowadays to conveying the imagery of futuristic Victorian Britain in music.
Hopefully though, this branch of music will grow somewhat in the near future.

Those bands are awesome, save for Bedrich Smetana which I haven't heard, so I can't have an opinion of it.
Many people also say The Dresden Dolls have a steampunk sound to it, and although they do have a point, there's another band called Harlequin Jones which sounds like the Dolls, but is even better.
And have you heard Beat Circus? I haven't, but they recommended it to me for a steampunky sound.

Welcome, Electrosexual.
Charmed...
By the by, though: You mentioned that Steampunk is a musical genre. This is pretty new to me. I always found it to be a literary style and aesthetic, much like Sci-fi and Cyberpunk. So... yeah. Music? How and where? I'd love to hear some.
Oh and *gives you a bag of jelly beans*

Belay my last... it seems someone beat me to the whole steampunk music thing. I am actually thinking about learning some electronic music programming, just to make a definitive sound. Hopefully it'll work out. Off to find Acid Pro now.
