This Year's School Year (duh, redundancy)
Yeah, I'm all excited about going back to school. It's just one more week until I'm finally a college student. =D
I remember that there were a lot of people entering college this year too, but I don't remember if we're all still here.
In any case, this semester has already started for many, and I don't think it will be more than a week until everyone (at least in America) goes back to school, so what are your feelings about going back to it?
I'm really excited, I have dreamt with being in college for years. I assume they'll be the time where I'll feel I fit in the most of my whole life.
I even know I'm going to start a new club. Well, not know, but I'm almost positive. There's no Free Thinkers club in college, and I have already talked with some people in UTEP that would love to start that club.
I mentioned my future astronomy class. I only need one semester of science more and that's it for me in the scientific department forever (that is, talking about a curriculum. I could never be done with science). So I chose astronomy because they told me it's the easiest class. It's not that I'm a slacker, but I want to focus more on my other classes.
What freaks me out about astronomy is that there's going to be 120 people in it, as opposed to my Political Science and Critical Inquiry classes of only twenty people. I have never been in a classroom with over thirty five students.
Then I'm also going to take English Composition, of which I have no feelings. I like reading and writing, but for some reason, I have never felt anything for English class. I fear I'm going to have to conform myself to a pointless writing structure to please my teacher. That was my problem with my high school English classes.
The class I'm most yearning to take already is Ethics; my only class this semester that is a real step on my way to earning a philosophy degree.
I like school.

Congratulations! I am really happy for you. My wife is in her 3rd semester on her way to a double major in Art and Early Education, and she's having a great time. And hey, it can't be all that hard; in philosophy, there are no wrong answers!

Since I'm in Australia I should be starting university March next year (or the next year if I take a gap year).
I'll be doing either zoology or veterinary science, which I'm both really excited about. There'll be no end to science with me! I've spent a few days at the university already with opens days and things, and I feel very at home there. Not really surprising since my parents, grandparents, and basically all male relatives dating back to the university's founding spent time there, both as students and professors (most of my relatives are even buried in the graveyard right next to the university grounds XD).
Needless to say I know I'll have a blast there. University sounds so much more fun than school. So much more interesting, not only in the subjects but the people as well.

Congrats on starting college! I'm starting my second semester in a week, and I'm really excited for it, mainly since I'm finally able to take a class that has something to do with my major, instead of just general studies. College is fun, I'm sure you'll have a blast!

I'm starting college this coming Monday.
I am less than thrilled. I have to get a meningitis shot, and I'm super nervous about everything.

I started yesterday...
Still don't know much about how it'll be, but it'll be better than my last school.

I am not all that excited about going back to school. My school sucks. And the only reason I am any where near excited is because I play soccer and do drama.

Yay! How exciting! I <3 college! Perhaps subconciously that’s why it’s taking me so damned long to finish my degree. I am taking Chorus this semester. I wish I could take more classes, but the classes I need to take that are still open this semester are only available during the day when I’m at work.
How old are u, btw? I have pictured you as being older than me just because you are so well-spoken and passionate about things, but perhaps I'm mistaken? I'm 24 and the perpetual college student. :P

Okay. I got confused - "going back to school" made me think of it as "going back to college" (as in, returning after a hiatus).

Nah, I just meant ending summer vacations.
Yeah I'm 18.
And I don't understand how some of you guys aren't excited about going back to school.
These are the times when you prepare yourself for the rest of your lives. I remember, when I saw my friends and I graduating, I realized these past three years have been nothing but basic training, and everything I have done, and everything that has gotten me into trouble, has only pushed me forward in my goals; not one single thing has hindered me (save for some periods of sloth).

I started school last wednesday. I still hate it though. I never had much friends, and I have always felt distant from everyone in my class. I am only close to a very few people, and mostly hate a lot of the other ones.

I go back at the end of the month. I'm looking forward to all my classes, especially my newest Theatre Arts class, and my English class.
I can't believe I'm still in the stupid math though. I just can't seem to get a good grasp on it.

Because you are stuffed into a room with people you probably don't like to be spoon-fed things you already know by "teachers" who have no respect for you and only do it for the money.
At least that's what it's like for me.

I'm currently entering eleventh grade in about three weeks, counting this one. I like the idea of learning; History, particularly American (Vietnam-era would be an exact period), English, and Philosophy would probably be my interests. Though I've only really read on my own; I started THUS SPOKE ZARATHUSTRA over the summer, but I'm not required to read it until next year. I'm in an AP History class, and this year, we're studying American History; the first topic will be analysis of the Constitution. I'm definitely looking forward to that. Normally, I'm less than apt when it comes to any form of mathematics, but with the right teacher and the right amount of dedication, I do alright. I'm getting a skilled Trigonometry teacher this year; afterwards, I get to pick one major course to drop; naturally, I'm dropping mathematics, and taking another foreign language, sincen that has always been a strong suit. I've already been learning to read and write the French language since I was in third grade (although I didn't take it seriously until fifth grade), so I am really interested in learning basic Spanish.
But that's three weeks away; I'm trying to savor every last moment of summer because I know that my natural academic competitiveness will bring me enough stress in the ensuing school year.

Going into 10th grade!
I'm excited because I can't wait to get back to Choir (I moved up to Bel Canto :3) and Theatre (I'm a techie - "YOU NEED US D:<"). Although I'm not so excited about math, I do have Art History this semester because the GT program decided to split the AP English sections up. It's hard for me to juggle dates, periods, titles and names in Art History while we're studying English and Lit as well so the splitting into separate semesters will help me a TON. Though the two-period-long class is bound to wear me down some. 'Tis why I'm getting jipped out of an extra elective. XD
So, I'm ready for school because of the new GT material and Choir and Theatre, but not so much for the rest of the package. I get antsy during the third month of summer vacation, anyway, so regaining a scheduled routine will remedy my restlessness.
Damn it, I heart school. Yay for teachers who actually know what they're doing.

That's what is like for me. Being stuck in a small, stuffy room with 20-30 kids and a teacher just droning on and on about something for 1 hour and 15 minutes is not my favorite activity.
The only thing that keeps me going during the day is knowing after school I either have soccer or drama or both. That and seeing friends.

Ah, school. I don't miss the inter-student drama, typical teenager stuff.
I'll be in grade 12. I have four AP classes-English, U.S. History, Calculus, and Spanish. And I'm also taking Honors Physics (my school doesn't offer AP Physics ). My electives include symphonic band (I play the bassoon!) and my independent study.
Oh man, I'm so excited for my independent study to begin officially! I'm studying Gothic literature--the classics and more recent works.
Oh, cross country practice begins tomorrow. I should sleep.

The not liking your colleagues is entirely up to you, and the droning stops if you challenge your teacher.

Doesn't work if the teacher doesn't accept the challenge, or knows less than you o.O

I started college last week and I love it. I have a dorm all to myself. My professors aren't assholes like the teachers I had back in grade school and are very down to earth with the students and their lectures are actually INTERESTING. They teach to all what you need to know then let you leave. I've getting out 30 minutes to an hour earlier. I also don't have to go to the same classes everyday.

Two of my old high school friends are here so I hang out with them and their new roomates ( one of them is goth too). Other than them I don't have any other friends( after all, the nerdy people like me seem get ignored around here). My classmates are actually tolerable and seem to show some maturity. I not close to any of them though and I still don't know all of their names.
Surprisingly, nobody so far has given my a hard time for my gothic lifestyle. I didn't think I would like college after hating grade school with a passion( which I have my reasons for). You get so much freedom here than in the prison people call high school.

This is a common assumption. Why don't you just ask your teacher why he/she dodges questions instead of just writing it off as incompetence. He/she could just be an ass. :D
In any case, you should ask why and bring things to light if they upset you.

Im starting 10th grade on Monday. And I’m excited about it, I didn’t like most of the kids last year but we will have allot of new people, plus we moved to a new building. My new English teacher is also my debate coach and he has a band called Jefferson Forklift (they kick ass, U should myspace them). I asked him about what he’s gonna focus on for this years English class and he said he wants us all to find our own “obsession”. He wants to help us find something that we will really love not just some dusty old bullshit curriculum.
For my electives I’m taking dance, Hip hop, ballet, African dance and modern. Im kinda upset because I cant do art. You have to do all dance or no dance. So Im joining the new art club so I can do stuff after school……… I get credits for dance!
I love to learn things I want to know everything I possibly can. I’m taking American government which should be really good because the teacher were getting is kick ass.
Im not looking forward to math because I didn’t get my credit or it last year. Which is bullshit I should of got it…. fucking bullshit…. I really don’t like math..
Cant wait to be done with math.. Cant wait for college .. I love school , I hate 80% of my “peers”.
