Massive Hole In The Universe

Found this on physorg.

From TFA:

"University of Minnesota astronomers have found an enormous hole in the Universe, nearly a billion light-years across, empty of both normal matter such as stars, galaxies and gas, as well as the mysterious, unseen “dark matter.” While earlier studies have shown holes, or voids, in the large-scale structure of the Universe, this new discovery dwarfs them all."

Wow.
A giant hole found in the universe.
I wonder when they'll release the patch.

Hahaha - it's actually not a hole - it's the place where Slartiblarpfast and his crew of engineers are building custom planets. From our side it looks like a black void, because you can only actually see it from the other side - you know, where you enter with the service trolley?

But that is pretty fascinating. I like the sound of 'dark energy'.

Wow. I love astrology. How interesting. You would figure someone who loves astrology would know a thing or two about science but I dont. But anyways, thanks for sharing.

[cue assinine joke about asses]

Seems I've done my part.

Out of mild curiousity... has there every really been a progression on the study of these things? Hmm. Article hunt time.

Black hole this, dark matter that... what ever happened to that one small-scale experiment with dark matter (I think it was)?

Kirby...

This is obviously in accordance with the Aztec calendar and the position of the Orion constellation. What is its relative position to Venus? This calls for a ritualistic bash.

All right, that's not exactly astrology, but it's a bit more entertaining. I personally haven't been to a ritualistic bash in quite some time.

Well this could ruin a few theories on the Universe. For one some scientists envisioned that eventualy there would be a big crunch when the universe could expand no more and eventualy everything just comes crashing back together again untill the next big boom. This apparently proves the universe will expand without limit.

Most scientists have dismissed the theory of the Big Crunch. The universe has shown to be not only expanding as you said, but accelerating also.

We better hurry up and develop technology to visit other galaxies quick before all the galaxies get too far away from each other then.

If we ever travel to different galaxies it wont be by conventional means as faster then light travel(and even light travel(even though traveling at the speed of light will still take us ages to get anywhere) is practically been proved impossible. We will be using stuff such as quantum tunneling which distance from 2 objects in the same universe is meaningless.

Actualy there have been several theories that could allow faster than light travel.

The only thing so far to break the speed of light is light itself.

something just to add
One of the reasons that prevent any object with a mass going at or faster than the speed of light is that the mass is not constant - it increases with velocity and it goes to infinity at the speed of light. So that eventually you need infinite amounts of energy to accelerate infinite mass past the speed of light mark! (and as far as I know we have yet to find an infinite source of energy :-)

Yeah, thats where all the real aliens are hiding, blocking our attempts to uncover their existence.

Sorta like when that friend of friend you don't care for buzzes yer flat at 2 in the morning after the club lets out and everyone quiets down so they think your not having a party - yeah, Earth is that friend.

'Shhh - turn off the lights, they won't know we are here!'

Here is where I got some of my info
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faster_than_light

Please look at options B,C,F

Yes but apart from wikipedia being a unreliable source all those theories back up what I was saying. None of them are conventional traveling eg warp holes and quantum tunneling which isn't going faster then the speed of light its just finding a shortcut in space and therefore doesn't depend on the distance our galaxy is from others.
Oh and I also think you will find that option b explains how only light can go faster then light
