I wonder if lonliness may be part of the reason I'm becoming more of a goth.
It's the third week of college and so far I haven't made a single friend. I wore black today, and it wasn't just the black that made me feel goth, it was the way the black made me feel. I have had times where I was kind of wannabe about goth. I bought into those hollywood stereotypes and loved them. I just wanted to well...look? goth? be goth? But now I'm getting to the point where I really am starting to feel goth. I don't enjoy indie music anymore, rock music...I hate mm, but I am dark. I'm dark and that's not all. I'm not just dark. I don't want to make a statement. I dont want to have a ton of piercings, i have a lip ring but I did that for the hell of it. I'm interested in the look of clothes, the dress- but I dont mean like dreadfalls, not even that much makeup...I like horror. I like the music. I don't know if I'd want to be a part of the goth scene. There arent any goth scenes around here. But I think the problem was I denied that part of me that wanted to be goth for so long because I felt that it wasn't me...the real me..who wears whatever she throws on and doesn't give a care. I have noticed there are a lot of judgemental people on this site who will throw out any biased bs remark just to piss someone off. Is this a part of the goth lifestyle? I know this site has basically pissed me off because people have been telling me I shouldn't be on this site and that I should leave because I'm a troll and that I'm attention seeking. I'm just curious. How many of you really are goth enough to be freakinn real. I'm not sure if lonliness is the main reason I've decided I'm becoming goth because I dont know if I ever knew a proper definition. I'm pretty sure that I can still be who I am and be a goth because goth to me is something else.

I don't think it's loneliness that's making you feel "goth" or whatever you'd like to call it. You've just found a particular style you like, and you want to try it out and see if it fits, which isn't a bad thing. I'm seventeen though, so I can't really say too much about the gothic subculture.

Like I said, you're experimenting, and it's all good. No worries! It's like going to the store and trying on different outfits to see which one suits you best (or doesn't make you look fat, haha). No one starts out as a goth, they experimented and experimented like you until they fell into that particular style somewhere down the road after having been introduced to it by some means or another.

And don't worry about the people that call you a troll. It's nothing to get upset about--trust me, I'm sure a lot of the people here think I'm one too, or at least a nuisance.

Ah well.

Here here, I second that statement. Just like any scene, there are people who make biased remarks and so on and so forth. That's not unique of the scene. Loneliness does not make people goth. The clothing style and "lifestyle", the scene in general is but an extention of the genre of music.

Most of us are some of the realest goths you'll probably ever meet, but at the same time there's a lot about us that isn't stereotypically gothic, but that does not in any way detract from our "gothiness."

I, for instance, am for the most part a very happy person. Despite the bouts of lonliness that may hit me from time to time. While black may be the main color theme of my wardrobe, I do wear other colors from time to time.

Make of it what you will, but again, the scene is merely an extention of the genre of music.

Goth is just a style, and as we've constantly debated, is just about music, so this you have half right; because even if you didn't want to be yourself, you would find that the only thing that would change by 'becoming goth' is the music you listen to.
In the end, you'll find nothing different in 'being goth' than in not being. It won't make you less lonely (unless there is a scene in your city), or any better, because it will still be you; you yourself as an individual, not you as a goth, would have to change if you're not content.
