Theatre of Tragedy...

If this topic has been done already, I wholeheartedly apologize everyone!

I was just wondering the thoughts people have about this band? I love their music, and I love Leaves' Eyes just as well. Liv Kristine is very talented, I absolutely adore her voice.

My only nitpick about the band is the fact they went from poetic gothic metal, during their earlier years with Liv, to industrial after Nell Sigland joined them.

Not that the newer stuff was atrocious, it just seemed like a completely different band to me in several ways. However, I do still listen to them.

I love Theatre of Tragedy, and its true, they have had vary-ing degrees of quality due to shifts and changes.

Most progressive bands, it seems, have this problem. For instance, The Gathering...

but anyway, I love some songs (like 'Angelica' and 'A Rose for the Dead'
but sometimes their music makes me cringe, for instance, some of the synth in 'Venus'.

I love Theatre of Tragedy. The only albums I really REALLY don't like are Musique and Assembly. I understand what they were trying to do but the concept didn't work at all. The vocals, music, and lyrics really didn't do anything for me. I didn't like those at all. Aegis is my favorite. Then Theatre of Tragedy, and then Velvet Darkness They Gear. My favorite songs are every song from Aegis, especially "Venus" "Lorelei" and "Cassandra", "A Hamlet for a Slothful Vassal" "A Distance There Is" and "Storm". I don't have the new album, Storm, yet. But Storm sounds promising.

I absolutely love "Venus," "Lorelei," and "Cassandra." Those are possibly my three favorite ToT tunes; "A Hamlet for a Slothful Vassal" is good, too, and I love "A Distances There Is." "Storm" I never really got too into, but it was good, I'll give them that.

The music video for it, however, was beyond cheesy in my opinion.

Yes it is. The band dissolving and reappearing. *Yawns*. Lame. At least there are some good looking people in that video to distract me from its lame-ness.

Don't care about them, but going to industrial seems like it will make them better.
There's nothing 'poetic' about gothic metal. In fact, there's rarely anything poetic about today's metal, especially the 'dark' type.
It's nothing but empty imagery and a "I'm Lord Byron srsly!" complex.
It's like:
Hai guys I just compared sadness to a dead forest I'm so DEEP!

Perhaps you don't, but I see poetry in their lyrics. But whatever, I'm not here to argue anything, especially with you. I like Gothic Metal, and I think some of it is deep--that's it, plain and fucking simple.

And fuck Industrial. It's ruining them, not making them better.

Agreed. "A distance there is" is definately great poetry.

I wasn't too crazy about Storm (I didn't hate it though), but I do love A Rose for the Dead.
