COF is not goth, and personally, I'm not so much a fan. They are more Scandinavian death metal - they all sound the same.

They're rubbish...an ex boyfriend forced me to go and see them. -_-

I sorta got bored after being hypnotized by Dani Filth's gut wobbling under a horrendous fishnet shirt after 5 minutes and just went to get pissed

I've seen them before.

They were pretty bad.
If you're a fan (which I am/were) just listen to their CDs, don;t waste your time and money

Put this on the list of things not to brag about on a goth forum (along with cutting and actually wishing you were a vampire).

They promote themselves as being goth, and a lot of their fans believe themselves to be goth by proxy. Clearly there's something to be said about justified animosity in that case?

Here's their myspace, where they clearly label themselves as "Gothic":

Ah, I had to see COF. Bear in mind, that this was back in my metal days and that I was mainly going to see Three Inches of Blood.

Hey wiseass ever thing that the band doesnt personally design and control their myspace? Because Dani Filth has said countless times, "you know what, we are heavy metal, anything else you want to call us is your choice" That and one of the styles they resemble is GOTHIC METAL, along with Black Metal, and Symphonic Metal

oh and thanks for having my back Alissa

Wormboy--good for you, but you have to have wanted to stir up crap with this.
Graveyard--we know how you feel about it, and you're starting to sound like a broken record.
Everyone else--you might not like it, but he does, and there's really no reason to immediately inform him that COF isn't goth.

I know I have said it before, but that doesn't mean I can't restate my opinion when it is appropriate to the conversation. No one said that we can only state our opinion ones.

GOTHIC can be taken in different ways. Not just GOTHIC ROCK, or Gothic subculture. If a band uses Edgar Allan Poe lyrics, they can say they have Gothic influences without stepping on your dear bloody subculture.
Why doesn't anyone get it for crying out loud.

Has your mom ever made meatloaf, and it was pretty good, and then she put it in the fridge for a day, and heated it, and you ate it again, and it was ok, but not good by any stretch, and then she put the rest back in the fridge, and then heated it again the next day, and it just sucked and you wanted to put your thumbs through her eyes?

Eh, it was actually valid so I don't think this one fits here Ophelia

If we only stated our opinions ones, then we sure as hell wouldn't get our point across to as many people as we can. Listen, don't read my posts if it bothers you, my views still stand and I am going to apply them to different situations whether you like it or not.

First of all, it's "once."

Anyway. Ok, fine, you can state your opinions until you're blue in the face, but just remember everyone else can do the same, and you're never going to get anywhere just repeating yourself.

My complaint is that they're not using it as an adjective, which while annoying, would fall within the bounds you're talking about, and would be technically correct. Although I doubt anyone would actually find them safely within the bounds of the Gothic Metal genre, even if the genre itself is a debatable topic.

Since they're using it as a noun, then it is obvious they mean it to be "goth," so they're deliberately mislabeling themselves.

I like Cradle of Filth, but I think they fit more under the genre of black metal along with Samael and Dimmu Borgir. I also feel sorry for you, they really suck live.

As, for what they veiw themselves as, Bands usually have a distorted veiw of the actual genres. This is especially true of the lead singers.

Cradle of Filth haven't been black metal sine about 1997 (if they ever were), and those other two are debateable........Samael certainly aren't now, but were and Dimmu Borgir are virtually shunned by a large majority of BM fans...although some of their stuff is good.

Alright...
I suppose
You still don't quite get what I mean but you pretty much grasped the gist and I get what you're saying as well.
I just think it's not that big of a deal and if genres cause this much crap there shouldn't be so many.

Maybe to you I'm just repeating myself, to me I'm applying my opinion in different situations which never results in the same statement as before.
