Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL.

Covers *no not that one*

I've looked through all of the pages and all of the threads about "covers" are about covers of songs. So, I don't think anyone has put this thread up.

Is anyone else here into album art? For some reason, it's one of my favorite things to look at when I buy an album. From the cover, to the jewel case backing, to the art inside the booklet. Even the text that was used for the song lyrics. It's become one of the things I look for in a band. Partly because i've discovered that there is a link, for some but not all bands, between the time that was put into the art and the quality of the music. *Sometimes*. Sometimes that's partly why I can tell rap is such crappy music, second to hearing it. There's no effort put into the creativity behind the band, their music videos, etc. Much less the music itself... Anyways, If I read about a band and am pretty sure i'll like them but can't decide what album to buy because I couldn't get a hold of any of their samples, i'll go to the artwork next. Just like music, it's another part of experiencing the band. It's part of the visual experience.

SO, are there any bands or groups whose art you admire? In what form is it, if other than album? (Of course they don't have to make the art since most of them hire other people to do this.)

OR have you never really paid attention to art?

I'm interested to see what the answers will be.

Since i've started this thread about art, i'll move on to something else concerning art. Music videos.

When I become a fan of a band or artist, I become a fan, though still a critic, of everything they do, artistically. Personally, music videos should be about going into the person's head or getting more of an idea of what a song is about. Going into the world of the song. Again, it's the visual link to the song.

SO...What are your favorite music videos?

WHAT do these music videos usually portray? Where are they usually located?

WHAT kind of videos don't you like? WHAT do they usually portray and where are they usually located?

Is the band always in the video? For the entire time? Or are there actors or models in the video?

Have you ever been disappointed by a music video because of how much you liked an album? Explain in detail.

Post a link to the art, if you like.

Fad Gadget's, "The Best of..." had interesting concept art.

I'll always be a fan of the avant-garde piece on the cover of Nine Inch Nails', "The Downward Spiral."

Download's, "The Eyes of Stanley Pain," and, "III," albums.

And maybe even Murray Head's simplistic, but very 80s, "Chess," album cover.

I admittedly don't pay enough attention to album art, but a few that I can think of are...

Black Sails in the Sunset by AFI (artwork by Alan Forbes)

Acid Bath and the Legendary Batcave Tapes by Alien Sex Fiend

Ashes by Christian Death

There are others, but I'd have to go and scan my CD collection for them. I'll think up a few of my favourite music videos while I'm at it as well.
