| Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Blasphemy? NIN Vs. Bauhaus 24 Hours by Joy Division
OK, if you go on my profile on Myspace, you will find a playlist. At the bottom of that play list, you will find what is in the title of this thread.
Peter Murphey... singing a Joy Division song... backed by NIN.
My principals seem to be making it hard for me to give this a fair listen to.

Well, it's a live recording. It's there if you want to hear it.

I like it. A lot. Sure, it's a little unorthodox (read: fucked up) and I don't normally like covers, but I really like this. I think Peter's voice really does something for the song and I can't get enough of that guitar.
The original version is of course better, but this is just really good in its own way.

At least it was Peter Murphey singing instead of Reznor.
Actually, Murphey sounds good with NIN backing him.

Yes, I quite agree. I honestly don't know that much about NIN, but I can say that I prefer Peter's voice over Trent's.

Listen to early NIN and you'll find they were obviously ripping off Skinny Puppy.

Yes, much how some of the newer goth bands seem to be ripping off Feilds of the Nephalim quite a bit.

I don't even know any newer goth bands, to be honest. I admit great ignorance when it comes to some music.

Peter Murphy always sounded good whether he was with Bauhaus or doing solo. That track sounded interesting though.

I listened to Phantom Vision's "Strange Attraction". I like it, Pedro Morcego's voice reminds me of a cross between Andrew Eldritch and Ronny Moorings.
I very much liked El Clan's "Hasta Volver la Noche". I've never heard from a Spanish-speaking goth band before.
I couldn't find anything by Open Paradise of Deviant Ladies. Then again, my only source is YouTube.

Deviant Ladies is pretty damn obscure from what I understand. I suppose they just don't have much of a following. After hearing them, yeah, I can understand why.

That is excellent, the guitar is so good.
Peter Murphy's voice sounds amazing with it too.
I would love to hear more stuff like this, it's genius.

I disagree. Pretty Hate Machine sounds nothing like Skinny Puppy. Can you give me a couple of examples so that I can compare?

I would love to Saddi. Not at the moment though. I don't own any NIN to begin with, but someone thought it would be a cool idea to spin NIN at ConFuzion and I thought it was Skinny Puppy till a friend of mine pointed it out and said a lot of their earlier work sounded like Skinny Puppy.

Saddi, are you sure you don't hear an almost musical style copy in "Down In It" with the musical stylings of Skinny Puppy?

Ok, so Down in it vs what Puppy song?
I really don't see it as a copy or a rip off. Perhaps that's because I'm able to quickly distinguish which band is which. Even if I wasn't familiar with NIN, I'd still be able to distinguish whether or not it's Skinny Puppy. NIN is definately more 'pop-y' in comparison.

I see. I'm no authority on NIN in the least. All I know is that I heard this one NIN song and it sounded strikingly like Puppy. Then again, I'm more than likely wrong.
