Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Recommendations
Anyone have any recommendations for me regarding Sisters of Mercy. I'm starting to get into them. Lucretia, My Reflection and Alice are orgasmic. Any others?

Mah faves (aside from LMR & Alice): This Corrosion, Dominion/Mother Russia (this is one song), Marian, No Time To Cry, Black Planet, Sandstorm (instrumental)...
Most people love 'This Corrosion' because it's incredibly catchy once the opera-y part ends and it REALLY picks up. Amazing. 'Dominion/Mother Russia' is a whole lot longer but an absolutely amazing song in every way (I love the background vocals - "come a t-iii-ii-ime"). The others are very good too. I hope you can find 'Sandstorm,' it wasn't an album song and is kind of obscure.
I have every song ever by them but those are some of the more addictive ones, at least for me. I'd really just recommend everything by them... especially the albums "Floodland" and "First and Last and Always" - the latter is considered by critics and a lot of fans to be the best but I have a soft spot for "Floodland" as it was the first CD of theirs I purchased.

Literally the same.
This Corrosion makes me want to cry; I don't know why, but it does; in a good way, though, as in it's too overwhelmingly awesome.

Oh, I know, Jillian! It's one of my top songs of all time... After I heard it the first time my love for the Sisters multiplied by about 500x.

Black Planet is a favorite of mine.
Also, if you like the Sisters, give Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and The March Violets a listen. They fall into the same catagory I guess, but I like them more. *Gasp* Blasphemy, right!? Hahaha.

Ditto on Haunted House's recommendations. You may also like Salvation and Rose of Avalanche.
With the Sisters, you should pick up "Floodland" and listen to it completely. Also, "First and Last and Always" is a must-have. "Ribbons" and "Something Fast" are also great tracks off of "Vision Thing."

My favorite song is Marian. But you might wanna check out the Mission UK as well; they're directly related to the Sisters.

I like "Something Fast," "Detonation Boulevard," and "Doctor Jeep" best, I think.

Flood 1 is my favourite of theirs. First goth song I ever did hear! Black planet is a great one, and 1959 too.

Every sisters song is bloody stonkin'.
...and with Eldritch's magical play with words, they get even better. Just look at the wordplay in this one (Something Fast):
God knows everybody needs
A hand in their decision
Some of us are not so sure
I seen his own held out
For a ride on television
I think he's still in Baltimore
Just.. brilliant.
