Marilyn Manson is a fake, anyone agree?

This is just my opinion, but I think Marilyn Manson is totally fake. I think he's just doing this for show and attention. Does anyone agree, or am I the only one who laughs at him? I kinda like his music though.

He's an artist/performer, so what did you expect?

Have you read his biograpghy, by chance? It's a good read.

A fake of goth? A fake of emo? A fake of musicianship?

A little bit more spefic would be nice and then I can answer this question fully.

I don't think he's faking anything. He's made it perfectly clear he's a businessman.

The above was regarding show and attention by the way.. not the "fake" part. Just so everyone knows.

He's intelligent, I'll give him that much. As far as performing goes, the only thing I've really listened to with admiration is Antichrist Superstar. I probably only like it was produced by Trent Reznor. He's gets a lot of hype for doing absolutely nothing, and it really gets on my nerves. I don't really think he's a fake though, he never claimed to be a goth, and he obviously has not goth influences. The only people that are fake are his fans.

He IS very intelligent, and I enjoy his art. I saw this clip from some MTV show of him teaching an art class.. I liked what he said. His autobiography is actually very good.
I just don't care for his music, and I ABHOR his Mansonite mall goth followers.

He never said he was goth, he's in it for the money, he knows what sells, and I applaud him for his success. He knows how to market to young people. I don't like his music but don't look down on people who do. He's not terrible.

Watch Bowling for Columbine, you'll gain respect for the man.

Ok, I have reached the saturation point for "Why Manson sucks part 48945848493338" posts. Enough already. DarkPrayer, before you post a new topic please search the archives and if it's been posted more than 10 times before, don't rehash old topics. Everything you post has been posted here already in some form or another, and that level of deja vu is bad for my health.

Okay. I haven't really thought of that yet, but I suppose this topic would be popular.

He's an enigma...Like most bands and members of bands.

Unfortunately...we will never know if the people we truly admire or don't admire are genuine or not. We can't really say if so-and-so is passionate about the music they create, their fans, and if they have or haven't fabricated the history of their lives to make them appear more, in Marilyn Manson's case and other bands even, of an outcast, and if he and others went through said harrowing experiences.

So in reality you could say that about a lot of people in the music industry...Who's to say Cristina Scabbia is being genuine? Emilie Autumn? Etc Etc.

You can say the same thing for people who are extremely talented compared to those who are mediocre or above average. Maybe they love what they do but want to cash in on it after all this time .

It sucks...It's crossed my mind a lot of times. But you can never really know. You can only hope that said performers aren't using you.

lol bit off topic but nice.

Listen, I love manson. I love everything he says, I love his style, I love his music, and I think he is absolutely brilliant. I will admit, sometimes he does go too far, does push too many buttons, but Eat Me, Drink Me is proof that he isn't catering to his fans in my opinion. Of COURSE you can disagree and disprove me, but that's what I believe. He made an album most of his fans hate. However, the bottom line is this, he is a very smart man, and who's to say what's real anyway? I listen to his music and his thoughts and watch his actions, and I take a lot of inspiration from them. They influence me deeply, and I have great admiration for that freak. Are you going to honestly sit there and tell me THAT isn't real?

But that was my point. He has said umpteen jillion times what he's up to and for anyone to discount his honesty is simply tragic.

The new album leaves a bit to be desired IMO. I've come to expect a new look and sound with each outing and this one really sounds like more of the same to me. He's better than that.

Cheers.

He's intellegent and I like his music. I don't think he has ever claimed to be a goth? His fans have just misinterpreted him. Nothing worse than a screaming 13 year old Manson fan.

Reply to Wormboy: I heard the newest album at a friend's house. I heard nothing wrong with it. I can't understand why the major fans don't like it.

Could you expound on what you consider "major fans"?

His newest album is more about love and relationships and romance. It's a bit... softer, for lack of a better term, than his older works. It's no longer anger and rebellion but tragedy and pain. However, within those songs is a lot of intelligent comedy on relationships themselves, another huge role in society. I guess people just expect cheap angry music from him. As he said once in an interview, "some people make art no matter what, and sometimes art is simply a slice of the artist"

I think it can be a bad thing to know -too- much about musical performers. I think the best you can do is either take them or not take them as they present their music [and in some cases, their personas], and either decide, "Hey, I really like this guy's/gal's/band's music and stage presence!" or "Hey, this guy/gal/band is really really awful! I think I'll listen to something else."

After all, at the end of the day, those folks still have to take off their platform boots one at a time just like the rest of us.

Another brilliant mind once said:

"Why should theybelieve anything I say? One of the things I've always said to them is, Look, I know I'm telling the truth, but what I do is akin to being a rock 'n' roll star, so you'd want to be very careful before you believe anything I say. Now why should they believe me? Eh?"...

well, i just gotta ask, have u watched his video for his song 'long hard road out of hell'? if not then it has him very seductively( and it kinda works 4 me..) dancing on a couch naked. if someone is that empty minded that they pose 4 attention, then why would someone expose themselves like that? i personally think marilyn manson is an awesome artis, one of my favoroutes, because his mind works like no one elses and a quality like that cannot be fake
