Please vote me off the island.
When the internet starts getting under your skin you know it's time to take a break. Thankfully an upcoming trip to Europe will force me to do just that. But in the meantime, a little venting:
I have thought for a while that G-net was more frustration that it was worth. The number of cool, worthwhile people on here are far outnumbered by trolls, clueless newcomers, unintelligent loudmouths, etc. More time is spent on petty rivalries, correcting misconceptions, and battling trolls than actually discussing interesting topics.
I don't know what masochistic impulse keeps me posting here but I keep setting "quit dates" and then failing to stick with them. I feel like I should be smart enough to stop inviting frustration upon myself, but somehow I am not. So in an ideal world, I would go to Europe, and when I'd come back I'd never see any of the following types of threads and could therefore start consistently enjoying G-net:
1. The "why do people make fun of me" thread. People make fun of you because you're in high school and you dress like a weirdo, and everyone gets made fun of in high school but you've chosen to make yourself an easier target. Stop whining about the consequences of your own choices (note: I wish I could take my own advice here in regards to posting on g-net!!!).
2. The "misinformed political bullshit" thread. This usually consists of a bunch of inaccurate statements that the poster refuses to provide sources for. Or, they provide sources that don't actually support their points. Then they get extremely hotheaded when you call them out on it because they realize they are drowning in a pool of their own bullshit.
3. The "overexcited newbie" posts. This is the barrage of posts that result from an overly enthusiastic and usually teenage newcomer. To them, threads like "what's your goth style" and "what's your goth name" are truly uncharted conversational territory. Somehow, a substantial number of people will egg them on by replying, while the rest of us shake our heads that people even still care about this crap.
4. The "let's feed the troll" threads. Any thread involving a troll where people take the troll seriously and start fighting with them. I think this stems from some people's genuine inability to spot a troll, which is more of an intelligence issue than anything else. Which brings me nicely to my next point:
Why is it that the people who are obviously intelligent and thoughtful seem to post the least, while those who are somewhat thick post with incredible frequency? Is this just my perception, or is there some potent combination of immaturity, lack of intelligence, and poor impulse control that causes these people to post threads at least twice a day?
I know that I shouldn't expect much out of a random sampling of people on the internet. I know that things bug me more than they should. Consequently, I know that being on here is just wasting my time and energy in many many ways. So, does anyone know of a good support group for quitting online groups? Could everyone put me on ignore so that it's completely pointless for me to post at all? Does everyone want to collectively tell me to fuck off (there's a few who have already) so that I feel obligated to leave? Can a moderator ban me for my own good? Suggestions are welcomed.

I'm amazed that you actually care about my opinion of you. I guess that's another reason this site is driving me nuts - people's constant need for validation/acceptance/support/etc. and their feelings of genuine rejection when they don't get it. To answer your question, I don't think I've noticed enough of your posts to judge, but you haven't give me a negative impression.

Lol, talk about a cry for attention. Sorry you only have a few friends on here that actually care for your catty attitude.
I must admit it is entertaining to hear your misinformed bitching, and advocative arguments... however tiresome they do get.
I didn't think you'd result to this however, but then again, I guess I overestimated you.

This isn't pointless. It's my opinion, and a public forum.

By passing the above stuff with Mav and Dragon, I think what you really need, Lucretia, is just a break pure and simple. It's okay to have a message board be part of your life. It'd be insane to think that it's not, since at this juncture in the 21st century our online lives are becoming just as important as our IRL lives. But when you do begin finding that fun beginning to subside, step away for a while and recharge your batteries.
If you geninunely (excuse the spelling error, i'm kind of tired) have fun and do have several people you call friends, then you should stay and just let the bullshit that irritates you roll off your back. I'm not saying ignore it, but don't let it get it under your skin and take away the overall joy you would otherwise have while posting on G.net.
There. Now that that's said: "Am I cool?" (you don't have to answer that, I was just messing with you to lighten the mood )

I think you become entramped in your own feelings and way of thinking.
Your points are truth, but have being truth since ever, when that happend to me, the what the hell Im doing here feeling... I finally go to the beggining, of course, the place where I found myself being a stupid teenager, with to many "new ideas" to see clearly nothing, qith the potencial to become well just more stupid... but for luck? I manage to be touched by people who made some difference, so instead of a stupid morron I become a sentient person, so I think... about you words I think well is OUR job to be better, and about ourselves, If you feel you are making a hole in a desert and you wont find water... well you will left a hole... the only thing someone can do is KEEP DIGGING until water comes.
I need to be there for the ones like me lost in the stupid society, and my voice must confront or at least be heard as loud as any troll, because I prefer to stay as the few who talk than the many in silence.
You can turn your head and well... go to dig somewhere else, my advice... water is not easy to find in ANY place... in fact this place is probably more potentially good for you than others...
I came from Chile... to talk here just because I feel exactly as you feel, a group of "trolls" as you said take our pages, and after a long discussion they left to create their own comunity, but in the meanwhile we lost many many people... I got angry and feel like there are a few figthing against all, and think may be out there are places less... mmm stupid... I think, stupidity and trollish is a pandemic disease the only thing I have is to hope the good people the intelligent one will no drop so soon, we can not affort to stay alone, this kind of movement of thinking people, of unique and diverse people will be always be targeted by moralist, by superficial people, by well.. any kind... we need "islands" right?
What I do agree is to step up, being dark or gothic doesn´t need to be always being silence specially when our "islands" are somehow invaded.

That's a fun rule. Here are some of my opinions, which aren't pointless because they're my opinions:
1. Sweet potato fries are better than regular fries.
2. Global warming is bad.
3. Architecture can be pretty.
4. Bunnies are sometimes fluffy and cute, but sometimes mean.
5. Peaches taste good.
6. Peach cobbler tastes better than just regular peaches.
7. Sometimes I forget that nectarines and peaches are different because they look somewhat alike.
8. Not all opinions are equal in reasoning, validity, or relevance.
9. Bunnies good (mostly)!
10. Peaches good!
11. Armadillos. They Exist! And they're cool!
12. I wonder if armadillos eat peaches, or bunnies. I bet they do.
13. If an armadillo and a bunny were in a fight, who would win? I say bunny.
14. I bet you'd say the armadillo, but in that case you've probably never encountered a pissed off bunny.
Thank you for reading my not-pointless opinions on this public forum.

I think you just need a nice long vacation with no Internet access. That always helps me clear my head of my frustrations with the pettiness that goes on in my various forums.
Also, you'll find that the "Ignore" button does wonders for your stress levels. Just block anyone who, in five posts, fails to redeem themselves.
EDIT: All rabbits are cute and fluffy and cuddly.

MaverickZero, you seem to have a grudge against LadyLucretia. I've seen evidence of this on the political forum. No one wants your opinions, as they are all incredibly negative. You called her a cunt because she disagreed with you. No wonder she wants to leave.
I hope you stay, LadyLucretia. You're witty and not a douchebag, like many people on this forum. I've experienced frustration on this site with idiots posting thread after thread of garbage, not willing to learn, using the site to whine about not fitting in, etc. The best and most obvious advice I can give you is to just ignore them. Don't bother with Maverick and he'll eventually lose interest. Preschool stuff, but it's the only thing we can do... I'd hate to see you go, you're one of the few people on here that knows what they're talking about.

To Lucretia? No.
I doubt I'm the only thing that's making her want to leave, and if I am, that's pretty pathetic. I'm not that egotistical, and I'd never leave a forum simply because Lucretia, or any of you other sympathizers don't like me.
Boo hoo.
I actually have enough self esteem to not need to come here to get reassurance that I fit in.
I come here to have discussions with people, about their views and topics of interest. Period. I honestly don't come here to make friends with a bunch of nobodies that think they are important.

You are a very rude man though. It is very off-putting when it comes to debating.
How should I say this...? You kind of make people want to box your ears, not have an adult argument.

Well in that case you can leave and select any number of places, even randomly where to discuss your views in your harsh way.
You are protected by the freedom of speech but also, but you are not forced to be anywhere, if you dont like this place you can go, but if you decide to stay, then you are responsable of your actions.
I think you can select wich people is ok with your arguments, and have your "fights" and who are not, if you keep tring to discuss things in a way people is not interested in discuss with you then you are the nobody...
I didnt came here specting to make friends, but YES I DO expect to find a friendly place with people who share my tastes, is this is called GOTHIC.NET I think Im in the right place.. are you?
Why came to a place not to find friends, to call people nobodies? may be you lack of balls to do that in the real word so you came here to try to be a man and make a very shamefull show.

I'm only rude, when I'm receiving rude.
I've not gotten anything but attitude and the like from her, so why should I bother to go the lengths to give her the AMOUNT of proof, which will never be enough?
I haven't found a reason to play nice yet. I've only found a small group, whose opinions are worth while. I'll continue to be respectful with them, the others who sheep together is pathetic, and I have no remorse in telling those who catagorize me, how I feel about them.
