Need some tips for foundation

My girlfriend just got me some foundation, and I've no clue as to how to use it since I've never had to. I've always had a fair-to-pale complexion. But now, I want to try and see if I can pull the whole pale complexion look. Also, I tan easily, so there are weeks when I have a slightly darker skin tone. By the way, the thingy is in a little compact with a pad thing on some powder. Anything I should know to make this thing work?

It's pretty easy if it's in powder form like that. Just make sure you apply it with the sponge that came with it or one of those foam sponge makeup wedges that you can throw away after each use. If you use the one that comes with it, you need to wash it about once a week, just warm water and antibacterial soap then let it dry overnight (or unlit totally dry) before you put it back in with the makeup. Mainly you just try to keep that applicator pretty sterile so that no bacteria gets set into your face and can cause you to break out.

You mainly just start with a clean, oil free face. It helps a lot of you put a light moisturizer on first and let it dry totally, this makes it apply more even and easier. I use a face moisturizer with SPF in it already, that may help you to as you said you sometimes have a tan.

So then just gently rub the sponge in the foundation until you get a good coat on there and start at the top of your forehead, go all the way down, around, over to cover all of the face, every little area beside the nose and all, making it even (just keep lightly rubbing it over, spreading it out and adding more as you need it to the sponge) and don't forget to spread it lightly under your chin and over your jawbone going down toward your neck. I looks stupid if your face is one color and abruptly stops at the jaw. Repeat if you want a heavier look.

Ah, many thanks! I didn't know bacteria could grow on that little pad thing.

No problem.

Yea it does and if you ever use a liquid, spray, etc. foundation make sure to always use one of the disposable wedges to apply it and never use your fingers. Even if you wash your hands often it is where a lot of bacteria is since we constantly touch things and touching your face with your hands (to apply makeup or otherwise) is one of the main causes of acne...as that bacteria gets there. SO on that powder type the bacteria just comes from touching it while applying over and over each day, as long as it is kept regularly clean, you should be fine. It won't hurt you or anything just cause an ugly breakout sometimes.

Make sure to use a gentle, oil-free lotion on your face (after washing it, of course) before you apply it.
