| Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

The Misfits
Don't think there was a thread about them before, so I'm starting one now.
I understand some people hate the Misfits, but I can't help but like them, and that includes the 77-83 Danzig Misfits all the way to the current lineup fronted by Jerry Only. I like how they (along with the Ramones) gave punk a morbid sense of humor that it didn't have. I wouldn't necessarily call them excellent, but dammit songs like "Halloween", "Last Caress", "She", "Scream", "Saturday Night", "Return of the Fly", "Teenagers From Mars", and my favorite "Astro Zombies", can stick in your head because of the sing-a-long choruses and Danzig's occupation with lyrics that are still un-utterable in a public surrounding. Jerry Only does a decent job as vocalist, a little below Michale Graves and definitely not an imitation of Danzig, but his croon is pretty cool when you see the band live.
I also enjoy Danzig's two bands, Samhain and Danzig (Black Aria was my soundtrack throughout my senior year in high school). You have no idea how awesome it was to rock out to "Mother" on Guitar Hero II. I would love to see Danzig live one day, but I doubt he's ever been to this neck of the woods.

I also love the Misfits. I have 5 albums and listen to them regularly. Samhain and Danzig also rock. Excellent thread spoon!

I killed your baby today and it doesn't matter much to me, as long as it's dead.
La la la la...I like the Misfits. One of the few punk bands I do like.

There are only like seven other threads with the exact title. Why not use the SEARCH option at the top of the page?

Saw them recently. Got close enough to pull Mr Onlys devilock. He wears glitter in it, and I ended up with glitter and sweat all over my arm:S

Last time I saw them he signed my ticket and shook my hand. Hah.
I love the Misfits. They're one of those bands that usually everyone likes despite their musical preferences. They're also one of those bands that you know every word to every song and are funnest to sing along with. And I'm also not afraid to admit that I like Michale Graves' Misfits stuff, too. Haha. While I like Danzig more, Graves is still pretty alright.

I love them, but really only with danzig. I don't know what it is... it just seems like they lost what I like with them when they lost him.

I feel like Graves is a better vocalist, but I feel like they lost a certain edge when Dazing left. Sometimes I'm like "Eh...... It's Danzig!!!" ten other times I'm like "Oh, it's Danzig......" Danzig isn't the best vocalist out there, but he's got stuff going for him. Graves has some serious pipes though. I think people overlook that because of that whole "The old stuff's better" principle that people follow these days. Danzig is bad ass, but I love Graves as well. I think it's unfair how people shun him because of some cock and bull that they think they might know about.

While Graves' voice is more smooth and he doesn't slur words, the recording value got better which could contribute to him sounding better. But "better" to some, might just mean "more clear". I personally like Danzig's voice better. If it wasn't for his slurring and Elvis-like vocals then they probably wouldn't be as loved as they are. With Danzig the recording was very raw, which I find more aesthetically pleasing. Graves is still pretty awesome, though.

That's what I'm talking about. Thank you. People just plain say that Graves sucks. I highly despise that.

I never quite got the slag that most people throw against Graves. While I agree with H.H. that the Danzig era is raw for all the right reasons, Graves had a style that was all his own. He never set out to be a Danzig clone and that's what got him the job in the first place.
Of the two, I loved "Famous Monsters". That album showed what would have been had Graves stayed longer. "Saturday Night" is an absolute standout in my opinion.

I detest the misfits. Glen Danzig can't sing to save his ass, honestly. Their music is just awful.

Which is why we love them! Hahaha. Seriously, who hasn't made a joke about Danzig's bumbling and babbling? And even a brain-damaged turtle could play the "We Are 138" guitar solo, but it's them and its great.

EXACTLY! Without Glen it's like they are dressing up and playing the rolls of The Misfits on the weekends. Really good fakes.

A lot of great artists suck at singing.
Robert Smith is simply HORRIBLE...but he's also fantastic! It's rock music, not Opera. There is no clearly defined technique that must be used. It's a freedom of expression type thing. he he he. now I sound like a hippie!

I love The Misfits too, I went to go see them live not too long ago but missed the WHOLE gig! Me and my friends went and grabbed a drink before we went and I got my drink spiked with "Liquid E" as it's known apparently and had to go home as was really ill. I'll go see them next year instead...
xXx.

I haven't the foggiest who Robert Smith is.
Yes, a lot of singers do have bad voices, I hate those singers.
I don't like bands with bad musicians and stupid lyrics honestly. Biggest example of this is Tenacious D (despite my admiration of Jack Black as an actor).

I haven't actually gotten around to getting much from Balzac. I think the furthest I've gotten from them was the "Day The Earth Caught Fire" concert DVD that came with the Misfits Project 1950 back in '04.
But I do agree, that they do have a great style. They occasionally tour with the Misfits, so I'm hoping to catch them one day soon.

Danzig was the MisFits. Graves sucked balls. Anyone see him on the Daily Show when he was supporting bush and trying to start the right-wing republican punk rock movement?
Prick.

There's some kind of love...and then there's some kind of hate....
I used to play that in this psychobilly band I used to be in.
Not a huge fan but I appreciate 'em. And I'm not a huge fan only b/c I haven't listened to much of their stuff.
Anyhoo, the drummer from that band I jammed with got to see Danzig & Doyle together on stage during Danzig's Blackest of the Black tour. Danzig did a set of his stuff and then brought out Doyle (saying he was bringing out a little friend to jam with, lol) for a set of ol' Misfits stuff. From what my drummer told me, the place lost its sh*t b/c so many of the fans there were youngins who'd never seen The Misfits beyond cruddy videos & listening to CDs. And having half the band was as good as it was gonna get!
