Favorite 80's Band(s)

What are your favorite 80's bands??? Classics, hair metal, bands that just started in the 80's.

List 'em out.

Dangerous this to post here... so much of what we love is from the eighties or was prominent during the eighties.
To preserve you from getting a solid paragraph or three of bands I like, I'll suggest this- for a band you've almost certainly never heard of but should really check out, try Siiiii (that's 5x'i'). They've just got back together last year and should be putting some new stuff out. They have a myspace. Google 'em.

Shall I list every goth and deathrock band?

You know, seeing as goth was kind of an 80's movement...

Don't make me list all of my punk bands. It would take multiple pages, trust me.

I actually don't mind them.

Hehe. That reminds me of the "I don't like David Lee Roth, that's because I'm totally goth" video...

I think Van Halen has some fun tracks, such as Hot For Teacher and their cover of You Really Got Me. There is something just a helluva fun about them.

I'm actually going to see Van Halen in February.

Anyway, I love a lot of bands from the 80s, but here are the ones who I absolutely love:

The Cult
The Cure
New Order
80s Genesis (the Phil Collins years)
Echo and the Bunnymen
The Pixies
Van Halen
Black Flag
Bad Brains
Beastie Boys
The Bangles
The Go-Gos
Eurhythmics
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
DEVO
The Damned
The Cure
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Public Image Ltd.
The Sisters of Mercy
The Mission U.K.
Michael Jackson (up to 1988)
Samhain
Danzig

I can highly recommend Huey Lewis and the News and Dire Straits as being examples of awesomely underrated 80s bands that didn't quite warrant a Behind the Music episode.

The Cure
Siouxsie and the Banshees
G'n'R
U2(Yes, I like their music)
Most hair band's music.
Some of the 80's pop is good

I'm really not picky when it comes to musical taste.

The funny thing about the 80's is that most of the music I hate comes from the 80's, but most of the music I love does as well. In essence, I hate the pop music, but love gothic rock, although most of my favorite post-punk comes from the late 70's (The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division)

That song makes me think of ski videos, LOL.

I don't really hate Van Halen, I just think that they're the most dreadfully overrated band of the 80's.

Hehe.

I think Mötley Crüe takes top prize for overrated 80s band, though.

There's plenty when you get right down to it, and rather than make a complete list, I'll just say that if they've got leather/spandex, big hair, and more makeup than their female fans, then they're awesomely overrated.
