Femenism
I have nothing wrong with people who would seek to raise the social status and overall thought about women. But when the hell did it go to the point of chauvinism? It's outrageous. That's just as ignorant as men thinking they're better.
You know what I think? People should look down and their bits, and quit trying to compare the sexes to see which is better. Neither is better, they're just different! Stop trying to compare!
Sorry, it just infuriates me.
I'm male, if you didn't figure.

It certainly is ridiculous and destroys the idea of equality in society. Luckily, many people are aware of this and tend to catch the extremists out.
Like Alanah Ryan. Her karma caught up with her and she's now a victim to being smacked up by a woman.

Unfortunately, extremists in all areas have a bad habit of making the rational people associated with them look bad. I don't really see the need in overanalyzing it either. Honestly, I have seen people yell at a man for holding a door open for them. I am thrilled when anyone holds the door open for me, especially if I am carrying a lot of packages into the post office or something. Even if I am not carrying anything, what the heck is wrong with just being polite? Please...

I consider myself femenist, but I don't try to compare men and women, or say women are better, I just defend my rights when I have to, but never reject men or something like that. I want to be a civilized woman in the future, why not start from now ?

I hold doors open for anyone behind me, male or female. Nothing ruder than letting a door slam into the person-behind-you's face.

Well then thank goodness chauvinism has absolutely nothing at all to do with feminism. And it's a bit of a ridiculous generalization that you posted as if it did. Perhaps you should do a bit of reading.

I think the post is about the extreme feminists, who have gotten to the point of acting just like male chauvinist pigs

Precisely my point. All feminists get judged and labelled as though they hold the most extreme viewpoint. Which is ridiculous, and ignorant.

Most people judge all groups by their most vocal faction (which tends to be the most extreme faction) why would feminism be any different? Also most people are well aware that there are moderate feminists they just think of they as sensible people not as feminists (at least this is how most of the people I know view it)

So the fact that most people are ignorant means we shouldn't correct their misconceptions? I take it that applies everywhere...so goths are violent and punks are racist and blondes are cheerleaders and we should allow people to continue to view the world as a giant collection of stereotypes? That works for me; I always thought that whole "people should be held accountable for the things they say in public" bit was a little silly, anyway.

My point is not to get upset when it was clear to me, and I'm sure to others, that the post was about a specific group within feminisms, even though the post was labeled feminism

this would be the part that tipped me off that it wasn't about all feminists

Again, my point was not that the poster is talking about all feminists. My point is that the post is titled and worded as though a tiny subset of feminists are representative of the group. Which is ridiculous. You're arguing a point I wasn't making. Bitching about feminists because a few of them do something you don't like is absurd, regardless of any arbitrary qualifiers you toss out along with it.

wonderland, taking umbrage at a title like that seems more like you're deliberately seeking to be offended than actually making a sensible point.
The title only said 'feminism', it didn't say anything like 'all feminists are chauvinists'. Reading the article, it was very clear that it was about the radical and bigoted feminists. The post carefully noted the difference between feminists as a whole and the radical idiots.

There is a distinct difference between feminists and those who I like to call "femi-nazis".
A feminist is someone (female OR male) who stands up for the RIGHTS of all women--Equal pay, equal job options, voting rights, right to obtain higher education, etc...
A femi-nazi is usually a woman who complains that when a man holds a door open for her, or buys her dinner is oppressing her natural born rights and is assuming she is not competent enough to do either for herself/declares all men to be worthless shitsuckers.
Feminists are great.
Femi-nazis make my head hurt, and give all feminists a bad name.

Actually, the post is asking when the hell feminism got to the point of chauvinism. It diferentiates people advocating the "rise of overall thought about women" but not necessarily feminists. I'm not trying to be anything, I'm pissed about an ignorant statement made about a group I strongly identify with.

Also, for the record, I adore men. I think they're wonderful, and am quite fond of having them around. Nonetheless, my societal and political views are far enough from the mainstream that I fall pretty well into that delightful little "radical idiot" category. Believe it or not, not even all of the radical feminists believe women are superior to men. We might just think equality encompasses more than a pair of pants and a paycheck layered on over the traditional role.

Their are two major problems with feminism these days. One is that nine times out of ten, when you hear something that has anything to do with feminism, whether it be on the news, in the papers, in court, on the street, whatever, it's coming from an extremist. The other is that nine times out of ten, when all we hear about feminism is coming from the extremists, the non-extremists sit back and do/say nothing about it.
