I Am Legend

Well, who has seen it?

My boyfriend and I seen it last night. It was a fanastic movie, IMO. It was very sad at times, but all around, I enjoyed it. It's also quite different from book, which I don't really have a problem with.

Loved it? Hated it? Apathetic? Purple?

I don't really want to see it much. I was very much satisfied with Vinent Price's version. (The Last Man on Earth)

I don't know if I'm going to see it, if it was a movie based on the book of any other name then it would be fine, but to me it just doesn't feel right of course then again I am a traditionalist.

Bleh to clarify my previous statement if it was a movie under any other title but still based on basic storyline of I am Legend then it would be fine. I was a bit worried I was a bit vague on that.

I have not seen it and I think it looks pretty lame. Maybe it's because of Will Smith or maybe it's just because it looks very uninteresting and lame. The title kind of pisses me off as well. I am rarely intrigued enough by any movie to go out and see it. No, I'm not some dumb kid trying to look cool all the time because the movies I like are not that far "out there" and different from sooo many movies that don't impress or entertain me at all. I don't quite know how to explain myself.

Well frankly the book it's slightly based on is quite good actualy and it's from the 70s so you don't have to worry about it being another version of vampire that some new author claims is the real thing while all the other ones are just lies.

I would agree. But when you think about it, he's still Will Smith.

wouldn't you rather see this?

I thought it was Will Smiths best Acting, in a more professional Oscar kind of way. It did have some sad moments and some really creepy moments and some cool humor and explosive moments. They could have done better character development on the women and boy. Also the ending needing a little more I don't know it just felt like it was missing something.

Probably because the ending of the movie differs greatly, in my opinion, from the ending of the book. I probably shouldn't judge though, I actually haven't seen the movie yet; but a friend of mine who openly admits to crying at the end of the book spent an hour talking to me about why the ending wasn't good.

I would like to see that. Based on that clip, I think that version may do the book a little more justice.

Kind of curious. Liked the book well enough, and a similar movie in its way of long ago called Omega Man, starring some honkey who would probably be turning over in his grave if he wasn't still alive. If you like Matheson, Gauntlet Press, for whom I reviewed some titles in the past, specializes in rare and limiteds, and they have some interesting Matheson short story collections.

It seems to me as though the movie, 28 Days Later, greatly influenced a lot of movies in its wake, including Dawn of the Dead remake, and 30 Days of Night. And 28 seems to me to owe a lot to I Am Legend. Just a thought. Or a few of 'em, even. :^)

I just got back from seeing this. I enjoyed it very much. I haven't read the book though. I thought there were some really sad moments in it, and some definite creepiness. Good film that. I shall buy it when it is out on dvd.

I'm not going to see this movie. It looks more like it's based on the movie "Omega Man" than the book "I Am Legend". Also, Will Smith can't play anything other than the Fresh Prince. Every character he's ever done is exactly the same. All he can do is spout catch phrases, flare his nostrils when the character is supposed to be angry and shout "Awww, HELL no!"

Plus, the character in the book didn't exercise or exhibit an optimistic attitude, which is what we see Smith doing in the movie trailers. He was a sorrowful, drunken maniac who spent his days killing half-human monstrosities, and his nights swilling liquor and listening to classical music.

I won't ruin the ending of the book, but I HIGHLY doubt that the movie will wrap up in the same way. For those of you who've read the book, you'll understand why that's important to a story called "I Am Legend," and why I have my doubts that the film can end properly. If I'm wrong about this, feel free to let me know.

No, the movie and the book are almost completely different.

He still dies in the end, but it is pretty opposite of what happens in the book. He is a legend for a different reason.

I still enjoyed both, though.

Did not like it.
I can't even say why. The whole time I just wanted to change the channel- but being at the cinema, with my family, this was not possible. The film didn't sit right with me, some bit of my brain was not happy with it and as a result I ended up letting my mind wander off to other things.

Question involving Spoiler, highlight the following blank space to read.
One thing- did anyone else notice that the vendetta the hive leader had against him was because he was foolish enough to steal the leader's mate? Anyone else pick up on the fact that the creatures weren't actually arbitrarily violent but actually a good deal more sentient and intelligent than they were given credit for?
Spoiler end.

That bit felt like a bad documentary. Like in a documentary where the presenter's trying to make a species out to be a lot more stupid than it really is, and doesn't quite succeed. Grr.
On the other hand, I do hope the batman/superman poster glimpsed in the first five minutes is a herald of things to come!
