Dealing with the retarded
NOTE: The usage of the term retard in this post is being used in the literal sense of the word in context.
Well today has been going along swimmingly well if you don't count this damn cold. Then not long afterwards I recieved on my home phone a phonecall. Apparently this one girl from my school tracked my phone number down in the student directory. I do not like recieving phonecalls of a personal nature that have been made outside of an emergincy circumstance without my permission from anyone so the fact that it was from somone from school was bad enough. Unfortunately it is not soo simple to deal with due to the fact that this girl is retarded. Now if this were from any ordinary retarded student this would be fine seeing as how I have a high tolerance for conversing with the retarded students at school but it is not my ideal job I do have limits. I end up having to feign interest in the conversation topic in order to avoid hurt feelings/get to a conclusion in a conversation, for example this one student cannot understand why I don't like metal or WWE wrestling, or that I'm sensitive to being touched (he's a touchy feely kind of guy). But this girl has been acting in a way that indicates she has a crush due to her apparent stalking of me. I find it quite hard enough to converse with people who act like they are mentaly difficient, but it's a different case due to the fact that it is because of their own ignorance. The fact that retarded students are completely innocent concerning their mental capabilities is the hard part, it's like getting on a 3 year old's case for not knowing what 2+2 is. I am going to inform her teacher of this but I think only words from my own mouth have a chance of working.

Hmm. If you're sure that she has a crush on you, you could always confront her on that in the nicest way possible, for example:
I'm flattered that you feel this way about me, but I'm not really looking for that in anyone at the moment, and would much rather just stay friends.
Or something along those lines.

Your best bet would to be to talk to her parents and discuss the situation. Let them know what's going on, and they should be able to do something about it.

that's another thing I don't know her parents I like to keep my school life and the rest of my life as separate as possible. I know the parents of possibly 10 students at most out of 1500 students and only in brief conversation and her parents arn't members of that very exclusive club. The best I can do is talk to her special ed assistant.

Well, then, talk to her special ed assistant. But there's always the chance that he or she will call the girl's parents, who may want to talk to you to understand exactly what's going on.

I think you're making a bigger deal out of this than it has to be. Just ask her parents to talk to her about calling people she doesn't know.

Just a reminder I don't know her parents, I needed to ask here because this is not an ordinary social situation and for social situations I gotta ask for a little help on how to handle it especialy for dealing with outer people's feelings seeing as how this department is not exactly my forte.

I had a similar situation with my grandmother a few years ago. She had alzheimer's--we did not get a diagnosis but she was a classic case--and could not remember our home phone number. Every Friday night at around 11 PM she would ask the night crew at the rest home to look up our phone number for her, and she would go down to the dining room, call home and curse my mother out. In between calling my mother all sorts of names she would beg for us to bring her back home. My mother explained over and over as calmly as she could that we could no longer take care of her. After about an hour or so of this my grandmother would wander away from the phone and not even remember the conversation. I know it was not her fault but this happened at least four times. She asked the same nurse on staff for our home phone, and it was given to her four times. Four times my mother talked to the nurse at the front desk about this and expressed how upset this made her (she's not in the best of health, either) before they finally gave my grandmother something to help her sleep at night.
I suppose I told you that to tell you I empathize. Although I really don't know how to handle that situation.

Yeah, why do I always get the touchy situations? I'm the worst guy for the job.

Couldn't you just tell the girl outright that you prefer not to recieve phone calls? As nicely and as firmly as you can?

That's one of the things I was thinking but I don't trust my own judgement on the subject seeing as how little experience I have with this .

Has she been making a habit out of calling you or is this the first time?

I just ignore calls I don't want to deal with.
Claim the phone is broken, if they ask.
It's what I call being a non confrontational jackass.

You are doomed. Your best bet is to pack up and move to the state next to yours, change identities and start anew.
Kidding aside, if you just nod and smile, this whole state of affairs is going to blow itself away in the next few months.

besides the parents I'm sure you see her at school, you should talk to some of her Special Educated friends to talk to her about this. IF that doesn't help, I would keep to ignoring the phone calls and probably just make her not like you as much while still not hurting her feelings.

Like someone else said, I would talk to her Para-pro about it.
Other than that...when I was younger and didn't have a cell phone, I would have my mother answer the house phone when people I didn't want to talk to called and tell people I wasn't home.

Why not try to talk to the girl? You have to be gentle though, throw the blame on your self if you have to (that's what I do,I hate breaking other people's hearts). Damn, why do I open my mouth, who do I think I am, the love doctor or something? Gosh....

Update: Well I have now spoken with her teacher and apparently just yeterday they were explaining to her how she was not supposed to call people like that, yet inspite of that she called me which does not look good. Her teacher was apparently not pleased at all to hear this.

I don't think people should have to use caution when telling someone that they aren't interested in that person--It's not your fault a person likes you, nor should you have to feel guilty for not feeling the same way. With the mentally handicapped, it is a bit different, but still--You shouldn't feel bad.
Hopefully her teacher will help take care of the situation.
Are you the only person she has done this to?

From what I gathered from her teacher this is not her first time doing this. Frankly I have no idea what is going on with her that causes her actions, but I doubt it's my business to know.
