Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

...I'd like to open up with a little number I like to call "You're an idiot."
It's a classic, and its use is wide and general, but this time used particularly because goths can listen to fucking Britney Spears if they want. It doesn't need to be of a particular genre to justify listening to it. That's that.

Disfunction you made my day with that! Musical taste is relative. You like what you like. AFI is a band that is hard to confine to a particular genre. Not all Goth's like them, and not all dislike them. I LOVE AFI. They have been my favorite band since I was in the 8th grade. Do I get crap for listening to them? All the time. Do I care? I really couldn't care less...
Since I feel a rant coming on I'll stop there... Are you a fan?

I like Sing the Sorrow and Art of Drowning....
But I'm going to have to go with Disfunction on this one.

I like all their stuff, but i'm in love with everything from "Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes" to "Sing the Sorrow." I'm ecstatic that they are almost finished working on their new album. From what I'm guessing this one will be a bit darker than the others they've put out. The last single they put out (Rabbits are Roadkill on Route 37) had some characteristics that reminded me of Joy Division. That song was left over from their recordings of STS, so there is no telling if the record will follow suit.
They really need to hurry though, I'm getting impatient.

yes we do.
i can't pick just one track. AFI is the music of my life... theres a song for every place, mood, feeling... i couldn't even begin to pick a favorite ALBUM. i listened to the "string quartet tribute", black sails, art of drowning and sing the sorrow all weekend while i was in San Fran... it rocked.

Indeed! I would never be the person I am, or will be... without music. Perhaps I am biased a bit since I am a musician.

I'm not so much into music like that either. I have never heard that expression before (reggeton) so I am a bit confused about it. Could you explain it a little please?

How can you say that music isnt part of being goth? Goth itself started as a sub genre of punk rock.

Sorrow, your statement is flawed in many ways.

Sorrow, The term "gothic" started actaully as an old, ancient German religion. Not a very popualr one though, in fact, in was not socially acceptable. But the stereo types started to Kick in, and, not being gothic is all confused.

I think what they mean is that you don't have to listen to music that is considered the "goth" genre to be goth. Another point to that would be that someone doesn't necissarily need to be into music to be goth. Perhaps they don't really listen to music and just love to read and watch movies? There are to many different combinations to even begin to fathom. Basically in conclusion, being goth doesn't have to fit in a pretty little velvet black box. It's more than a stereotype.
