Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL.

Concerts you've played.

I know a lot of people on this board are in bands or have been in bands in the past. I was just curious about any cool stories people might have about shows they've done.

Has anybody done a show where nobody showed up? I've had shows where the crowd numered less than the people in the bands that were performing. Once we showed up for a gig that had been canceled due to the weather, we went ahead and played to the 3 people that were there.

Can't really contribute to this thread 'cause my band's only played one show, and that was to raise money for the school christmas review.

It was interesting trying to run 6 or 7 amps out of one regular socket and a lot of extension leads though.

Maybe I should have labeled this thread "Do you remember your first concert?". Truth is I can't remember mine a all. I wish I'd kept a diary of all my bands and shows. I'm sure someone would enjoy reading about it when I'm old or dead.

Speaking of power issues. I remember playing in a "big" Halloween show, I think it was 1987, besides us THE DWARVES, MIGHTY SPHINCTER, and bunch of lesser knowns where on the bill. The promoters had rented a big warehouse and built a really nice stage. About 4 hours before the show we all started setting up our gear for a sound check. Someone finally noticed that there weren't any electrical outlets in the building except for a few weird shapped giant type at the far end of the building. "Anybody got a couple of mile of extention cord?"

Weirdest band I opened for would have to be THE ART OF NOISE at the hieght of their popularity, not sure what the promoters could have been thinking of.

What bands have you been in Mouseblood? Name them, I'm intrigued by your music.

The best show we ever had as Disciples of Sorrow was actually our first gig. We performed in front of hundreds of people at a huge club called the Fridge, along with two other bands: Syrens, and Goths in Training(later Dark Templar, now Plasticoma).

That is one gig I'll never forget.

If you never heard of any of them, do feel too bad, they weren't exactly household names. They each had their own little cirlce of rabid fans, I'll try and find some links so you can hear some of the stuff I recorded with them. If I can't find any sites maybe I can upload some old videos to YouTube.

I might just do that. I haven't been in forever, and it was a nice place.

I've played a few local house party shows with this Horror Hardcore Punk band I was in. Most notably, we played at CBGB. It was cool because I never thought I'd ever be there before it was taken down let alone play a show.

I played w/a few punk buds who were younger than me, & who said they could get our band a gig.
Except every gig consisted of them basically begging, the night of the show, the punker putting on the show to let us go on.
He let us on, twice, though.

AFTER the show!! lol.
After everyone played we got 10 or so minutes to play to whoever stuck around.
Just my luck my buds would, by then, be so on something that by the time we played we sounded terrible. I did it for laughs since I knew they & I weren't on the same level, goal-wise.

Did one gig w/ a chick guitarist. Great Monday night gig in Austin!
She didn't think so, though, and she eventually spazzed out & quit the band.

In my last band we took the songs of this chick I'd been jamming with, and reworked them so they sounded good. But rather than go into the studio to cut the songs she & her hubby insisted we do a video for one of the songs.
So we rented out this rehearsal place & her hub brought out his cameras.
As it turned out the place was not air conditioned, it was about 92º inside the whole time, and her hubby basically filmed her most of the time while occasionally catching a glimpse or two of us in the background!

Would've been worth it if she hadn't sounded so bad!!
Plus she started going all Mariah Carey on us b/c she didn't like that we had to do the song over & over in order to get the vid done.
So she pouted in between song takes!

Who says being in a band isn't fun!?
