Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

I've had this album for over a month.
That's how goth I am.
I was meaning to post my thoughts on here for a while, but I suppose it slipped my mind.
In essence, it's what you'd expect- no more, no less. A lot of perceptible influence from the directions the band members pursued in their other projects. 'Saved', a very minimalist, slowed-down ballad, is my favorite track, while the shoddy Bowie-approximation of "Too Much 21st Century" is positively painful.

Already heard it, bwahaha. Hopefully I can go out and buy it this weekend.
Excellent stuff as always. I really love "International Bullet Proof Talent". It's a bit of a departure in sound, but then again, every Bauhaus album was.

Does anyone think that the new album lacks something of the atmosphere their earlier work had?

I haven’t heard it yet, but from what my friends have said I’m sort of scared, (they say its crap). So I am in a dilemma either listen to it and be tainted forever, or not listen to it and enjoy hearing Terror Couple Kill Colonel five hours straight.

I haven't heard many good things about the CD but appearently they still kick ass live (I'm still mad about having to go to a stupid wedding instead of a bauhaus concert)

I like it. It's kinda sterile when compared to their earlier work, but good nonetheless. It's definitely the same Bauhaus, after all these years.

I don't suppose that really matters now, for they're not touring.

My post was more to say that even though it doesn't really show on the CD they still have the same heart and soul

I liked it. Much better than I expected. But I'd say it's their worst album. I was expecting them to "force" in a lot of modern influences. I was glad they stuck with their roots.

Bought it a few days ago, wasn't too keen at first but it's growing on me. Overall I do like it, easily my least favourite of their albums though.

I can't believe there isn't more discussion this. It's probably the biggest thing "Goth" wise we're going to get for a while.
The first half was definitely Bauhausy but with a "Classic Alt Rock/Glam Rock" feel - it REALLY reminded of T-Rex but with spooky vocals and guitar lines. Adrenaline is much better here, it sounds like a Bauhaus song now. After a while, it started to turn into a Peter Murphy album... they even have a "Turkish" track. I actually think he "melded" his voice better with the Dead Can Dancey kind of singing better than in "Dust" but it's still kind of out of place.
Also in a lot of tracks his vocals were too low in the mix.
Very impressed with the first few songs, and great album after all. Also, one or two of the later tracks were amazing but could have sounded more "epic" if only they'd spent more time working out some chord progressions. The whole album suffers from this. Dog's a Vapour especially - it really builds up to the guitar part, but the guitar part itself loops over and over, and you can just FEEL the progression waiting to happen but it never does. Shame. They should have cut off the last minute of it maybe if they weren't going to expand it properly.
Real shame they didn't stick around to make another album. I'd have like to have seen where it would go. I assume they'll have another tour in a few years, though, around the same distance as between Gotham and '05 tour. Never trust a band that says they're broken up for good.
What I like though, is that it SOUNDS like an old album, though better put together than their older efforts, despite feeling rushed and unfinished- as some asshat complained about in a review. The songs sound as if they come from the 70s(maybe even in the late 60s in some cases, with a lot of stuff like Iggy Pop, T-rex, etc.), early 80s, or early 90s. I can't imagine how this album got made in the 00s.
As a general alternative rock/goth album it's pretty good, but especially as a Goth Rock/Post Punk album, I'm unsure.
