Hey! I take offence to that  .
Speaking as a "model" of sorts (a fact which I'm not proud of - and no, the modelling I do is not at all naughty! - it's just because advertising is so full of lies) I might enjoy my fair share of vanity, but I am by no means obsessive over it. I couldn't care less how I look most of the time.
Okay, in all honesty I hate the business, and it is definitely not what I want to do with my life, but I'm young and will soon have university to pay for - so if companies are willing to pay me ridiculous amounts of money for standing around and looking pretty, I'm all for it.
I'll recommend it to any young and beautiful person just because if they manage to get some good modelling jobs it can be a valuable learning experience, both in discipline and in just learning how commercials are made (not to mention it's great for the self esteem!).
I could ramble on for ages about this... I suppose I just get a little defensive because I'm constantly trying to justify to myself why I'm involved in advertising, because in reality I'm the quiet, invisible wallflower with barely any confidence.
Sorry if that turned into a bit of a rant!

I suppose I'm just looking at it from my standpoint. I have a delicate ego and I know I would become obsessed with how I looked. If I put on a pound weight I'd be depressed for days. Or if I was rejected because I just wasn't the right kind of look they were after or whatever, it might effect my self-confidence.

I have nothing against those who chose to go into modelling, Cicero! More power to you if you get benefits from it and enjoy it.

It's alright  . I often feel so guilty working for the all-powerful "media", so when I hear of the bad effects it can have on people I immediately turn defensive. I suppose in that respect I have a rather delicate ego as well!
