I am intrigued

Hello I came here by accident and looked around a bit. At first I thought this would be a forum with tons of posers saying how they are so gothic but looked and found myself intrigued. It seem as though this is a safe haven from reality. No one cares as if your gay or satanist. I personally am an Atheist.

This seems like a place I'd enjoy with people that aren't so hypocritical and accepts you for who you are. People who are much like me. I am only 12 yet I am more mature than most people. I am a man and i never close my mind, or so to speak. I would love to talk with some of you and hear of what you consider the gothic culture as.

Hello, I like you already.
I'm an elitist when it comes to music, but I could forgive you if your favorite band is 30 Seconds to Mars, or something.
No, this is not a place for posers. Personally, I wish there were a couple more. They're amusing.

As for this, it is generally agreed in this site that the gothic subculture is centered around music, with everything else being either cool or nice aggregates.
Vyvian actually wrote the whole story of how the name gothic came to be in the world of music relatively recently.

No one cares if you're gay or a Satanist? What the... anyhow, for some reason I feel like it's wrong from, being not a minor, to speak with minors online. I'm not sure why. Can I ask you this? Does your mom know you hang around on websites with adult content such as this one? I'd be pissed if I found my son on a site like this one. However one cannot make assumptions based on age only. Welcome, and I hope you enjoy your time here. You do write pretty well, also, and that was nice to see. A few errors here and there, but....I'm not very good at welcoming.

Never mind and just welcome.

Well Wes Stalker I've seen posts with people that say they are gay or in a satanic group and no one cares even the Christians. It seemed as if there were no or few hypocrites and no i am an atheist that is straight if that's what you are wondering. As for my parents not knowing I come here; I think it doesn't matter as i don't look at pornography or want to kill myself. Although my parents sometimes think I'm a druggie but other than that my dad says to hang out with the most diverse groups and try to understand them. I chose being a goth before he said that though.

Assuming that you're perfectly open-minded is in itself closing one's mind.

What a coincidence! I joined this website with very similar intentions, and have been rewarded every time I come here. Good luck finding other Goths, and, in the process, finding yourself.

Good goth Jill thanks for mentioning me. And by the way, here it is of our beautiful gothness =):

Goth is a music based subculture founded in 1979 with the formation of the most notable goth rock band to date, Bauhaus. Goth emerhed from a fusion of both punk and glam, yet with a darker, more brooding and melancholy sound and vocal style. It was first labeled 'postive punk'-as it was too dark to be considered glam, and not aggressive enough to be considered punk. Although Bauhaus is considered the first gothic rock band (the term goth was used by postive punk bands such as UK Decay, which is suprising to some fans of 2nd/3rd generation goth work) two years prior was the formation of Siouxsie and the Banshees, whose fashion (mainly from Siouxsie) became the highlighted symbol for goth fashion to date. Goth fashion can be used as a symbol to represent the feelings of alienation and understanding society's flaws to accept the world for what it really is. Joy Division, though a soully post-punk band, influenced goth as far as themes. Yet the lead singer Ian Curtis commited suicide ironically as the movement of goth began.
GOTHIC, The term as mentioned eariler was used to describe the music, with the release of the Bauhaus single 'Bela Lugosi's Dead'-which was a haunting and stark record that forever changed the asesthics of music. With this, more Gothic rock bands emerged and soon came the subgenre of deathrock, and the Batcave in London. The origins of the term goth or gothic may have came from British goth rock band SexGang Children, in which the lead Singer, Andi Sexgang, had lived in a town called Visigoth. He was nicknamed gothic goblin by Ian Asturbury of his early gothic rock band, Southern Death Cult (later to go through unnessecary name changes and looks), and thus the term goth was used to describe his fans. The Batcave, an old goth nightclub, in London is considered the birth place of the goth subculture itself. Though positive punk, neo punk, and other terms were first used to describe goth. Bands like Specimen, Alien Sex Fiend, and SexGang Children are notables at the Batcave. Meanwhile, goth in America was given its own, often perferred term, Deathrock. Deathrock (a mixture of punk and goth) is often seen nowadays as the stereotyped image for goth, with the DIY work, ripped fishnets, teased hair, black lipstick and painted finger nails, etc. despite not given any mainstream success. Deathrock was a term used to describe horror themed novelty songs in the 50s, yet it had an entirely different meaning. Aside from this, Kommunity FK is considered the band to have invented deathrock, yet what is often misconcieved as the first Deathrock band is Christian Death.
Goth's image was seen a wide range in the eighties with the post punk holocaust drawing to a near end. With post punk's storytelling ability and elements of Glam with the fashion used from Fetish such as bands like the Cramps, Goth still remained underground in both England and the United States. Germany was begining to see the beauty and image of goth as well with Xmal Duetshland (excuse if I've mispelled)...However, Goth central is cited both in London and Los Angeles. With this, Goth's gloomy aesthic and sound (which consisted of a wide range of ochestras, bass guitars, psychobilly sounding riffs, and even acoustic sounds) was becoming familar to the mainstream with its stunning apperances. Memorable 80s cinema displayed a positive place for goth in its time period, beginning with the 1983 Vampire film THe Hunger in which gothfathers Bauhaus perfomed their single 'Bela Lugosi's Dead'-in a nightclub in the opening scene. The styles featured in the film The Hunger have in real-life influneced current goth fashion (such as the useage of sunglasses, Ankhs, black clothing of course, etc.) the film also featured the largest pre-goth advocate, David Bowie.
Goth, by the early-mid eighties, had a generation of music, called the second wave of Goth rock. Fields of the Nephillim, The Mission, Danse Society, Play Dead, and the Sisters of Mercy, are notable acts of the 2nd wave of goth rock. The mark of this is cited when Bauhaus broke up in 1983, however, this was also the time that goth divorced itself from punk moreso and became its own style and genre. After Bauhaus disembanded, former members such as Daniel Ash and David J, played in simply tagged 'Alt. Rock' bands such as Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets. Peter Murphy, the singer, persued his own successful solo career. As the second wave of gothic rock emerged in the United Kingdom, Deathrock was still fresh in the United States. The most prolific deathrock artist to date is, most definatley, Rozz Williams. Other than forming Christian Death, he had also associated with other considerably dark punk rock bands and even his own side project, the goth rock band Shadow Project (along with his soon to be wife, Eva O). Rozz Williams is along with Patrik of Kommunity FK, considered the founders of American goth rock and style.
Goth style, as far as fashion, is hard to determine where the origin of the fashion started. Many elements of stolen from Punk, as some other elements are taken from Victorian fashions as well as Fetish fashion (fishnets, leather, etc.). Though the aesthic of goth fashion should be clear with its beautiful appereance. Black can be cited as a colour of indiuvality, outcast-ness ;p, or something that absords...So in short, I will say simply that Goth is beautiful and a way of life. It emerged from a musical genre, yet the idelogy can be described as timeless.

Goth Forever

Actually, I wasn't wondering if you were straight. I really don't care. You're a bit weak in trying to insult me and then trying to explain yourself to me. If you're going to get angry, do it properly.

Oh, haha, I didn't see the 'l'.
In his defense, just as I didn't notice the 'l', he might have thought your name did have one.

I would call it a typo, because if it were an insult, then it is out of sync with the rest of the post. The overall post is a calm reply, so I think it was an innocent error.

But I did see and wonder about an inconsistency in the original post: he claims to be 12, but then said "i am a man...".

O_o

Oh, and Cyntrox: I too become driven to insanity by people my own age.

Oh, my fault I have a tendency to read all names fast and considering the human mind reads English by seeing the first and last letter and a few in between I immediately assumed it was Wes Stalker. I am in no way angry with you or implied an insult. Also i never say boy i always say male or man so that I am not associated with the immature people that this worlds society has brought upon us.

But the fact is, love, that you are indeed a boy. While you may be more mature, mentally, than most of your peers, you remain too inexperianced to be called a man. I do not refer to myself as a woman, for I am 14. Unless you truly believe that you could survive if you were thrown into the world right now, you are not a man.
You are 12, darling. You are a boy. Be as mature as you wish to, but don't let it get to your head. Act your age, because you will never again get a chance to.
Also, people are so much more susceptible to manipulation if they underestimate you. After all, who would suspect the sweet, innocent 12 year old?

People, don't place so much emphasis on his age. he didn't say he's a man; he said he's mature.
And it seems that he certainly is.

Tismine in real life we would be great friends. I myself acknowledge that I am a boy and not a man, however, whenever i say boy i feel very uneasy and many around me think of me as another immature kid who will one day doom society. I normally use the term male so people won't think I am trying to be something I am not.

Welcome anyways Shirani Aori, but you still answer the intro questionare before you get flamed here.

Hey Vyvian, by chance you gonna write a book on goth subculture? That whole story of yours was very impressive.
Hell I'd a copy of the book and bow to you on my knees at your book signing appearance. I'm not worthy!! LOL
