Rae Ven Rae,
A show on the History channel wherein two hosts (one a MMA fighter, the other a former football player and former professional wrestler) who travel the world learning about various martial arts styles and, after a short while in each country, challenge a local champion of said style. Their pronunciation is routinely terrible. I can forgive pronunciation on the live-recorded footage, but there is no excuse for poor pronunciation on voice-overs.
The show is a guilty pleasure of mine. Mostly I like to see the hosts get smacked around and get skeptical/condescending looks from the resident veterans.
My hands are registered lethal weapons in 16 states,
Matt

Rae Ven Rae,
Twenty years in the martial arts world. It has become part of my blood now.
My martial arts career is almost old enough to drink,
Matt

LOL...man then you and my hubby would have TONS to talk about--he studied Tae Kwon Do, Ju Jitsu and I think Hapkeido --I plan on taking a class with him one of these days, so I can share his passions--he has an amazing sword collection too --
What discipline did you study?

Rae Ven Rae,
Japanese Juujutsu for 20 years, Filipino hand and knife fighting (Kadena de Mano) for 5 years, Iaidou for 5 years, Kendou for 1 year.
The only blade worthy of mention in my collection is a late 17th century katana that my grandfather captured during WWII. I do not have the money to attempt to collect good blades and I refuse to waste my money on garbage.
The blade is sharp...very sharp,
Matt

Rae Ven Rae,
Those are probably made of rattan (a thick, porous vine) and tend to be called "Eskrima sticks." Those "proper" term varies depending on which region of the Philippines one is dealing with. In the Inayan System of Eskrima (wherein I am certified for Kadena de Mano) they call the double stick style Sinawali. Devastatingly effective.
Two weapons are better than one,
Matt

Hey, good to see another *nix engineer / sound man type here. Sorry about that little bit on the music forum, the thread was just starting to get on my nerves.
Look forward to seeing you around.

Welcome. Hope you and your wife stick around, I've noticed that a lot of members from before have mysteriously vanished...perhaps a goth neutralizing virus?
